Looking to return back to work (NHS) later in the year, please tell me about your non clinical roles.

Basically I was a community nurse for over 12 years, left and had two children. Youngest is now 3 and will be starting nursery in a few months.

I am looking to return to work but no longer in nursing. I am looking at non clinical roles within the NHS but I’d value some input on different job types.
I know about admin and clerical / medical secretaries roles.

I’d like to know what other jobs which might be a possibility to go for.

Thanks so much.

Research coordinator (not research nurse)? I don't in fact do this myself but a couple of ex admin colleagues went on to this. They were both ferociously organised and they enjoy the work.

I'm an admin manager in the NHS but I would love to be a service user and carer involvement coordinator

Research practitioner? There is a chance to gain clinical research practitioner registration from it, sometimes utilise some clinical skills in research trials, but mostly desk based m-f 9-5

Digital champion/clinical system trainer

Our local hospitals often use people with nursing backgrounds for these roles as you can use your experience to build rapport and trust with nurses and other clinical staff.

Also clinical system testers, working through clinical processes on systems before deployed

In my regions these roles pay from band 5-7 depending on experience

Thank you for all your suggestions. I am going to look into these roles.

Clinical coder? Mostly on the job training, and most trusts want you to sit the exam though. Pay should be band 4-6, depending on where you live, and work from home is widely available to, if that’s your thing.

Discharge coordinator? Ward based and does involve patient contact but non clinical.

What about Practice Governance? Your clinical knowledge would be useful.
