Change to job description

Hey all. Does anyone have any experience with a change to a job description? Broadening of responsibilities and duties for this particular role (but not totally unreasonable for seniority of the role). This has also been decided without consultation or advance discussion which seems to be against best practice. Union is now involved but just wondering about others experience.

I have had similar, if they aren't changing your benefits they can pretty much shuffle the responsibilities around as they like/ suits the business. You might have a case if you feel they are trying to set you up to fail/ manage you out with the change but otherwise this wouldn't be so unusual for a business to do.

Thanks. Yeah they are definitely not trying to manage out or anything. Like I say, I don’t think it’s unreasonable for the level of the job and might even bring some opportunities too. Just wondering about process really as they pride themselves on how much they value the workforce, but this doesn’t seem to have been handled particularly well (from a managing change perspective).

In my experience consultations are a box ticking exercise for when they have to do something negative. Most my large job changes have come from higher up restructuring conversations that are then sort of presented when agreed by the Board. I suspect if they haven't been consulting with you that they feel the the expansion of your role not to be negative or unwelcome? Good news is usually just presented so I'd suspect that might be why.
