Hello, I've interviewed people for lots of NHS roles. Do you work for the NHS at the moment?
I'm not sure if it's the same for all trusts, but we always ask 4/5 values based questions, these tell us about you and how you would behave in certain situations, and 4 skills based questions.
So for example, the values based questions may include things like 'Can you tell us about a time you delivers excellent customer service?' Or 'Can you tell us about a time you made improvements to a process' or 'Can you tell us about a time when things didn't go to plan and what did you do to resolve it? Google examples of values based questions and prepare some examples.
When you answer the question, use the STAR format - Situation, Task, Action, Result. And make sure you say 'I', not 'we' so it's really clear to the interviewer what your role you played.
For the skills questions, read the person spec and make sure you can talk about your experience of all the essential criteria. So for example, if one do the criteria is 'experience of working with confidential and sensitive data', make sure you're prepared to answer this and give examples.
It's a good idea to prepare some questions to ask at the end. This could include things like 'Can you tell me a little bit about the culture of the organisation and what it's like to work here?' , 'What sort of opportunities are there for learning and development?' Again, if you Google, there's lots of ideas for questions to ask at interviews.
I always really like it if people are passionate about working for the NHS, rather than just wanting a job.
Good luck with it! My DS also has an interview this week for a band 3 role.
