School Leaver CV for Hospitality jobs before/during Uni

Does anyone have any advice of resources for what to put on a Cv for an 18y old about to do A levels. I am helping my son write his to apply fo rhospitality jobs over the summer, before he goes to Uni in October. He has a small amount of work experience (labouring, garden centre) but no hospitality experience. He is also applying to supermarkets.

We really have no idea what to put for personal profile and to pad out the small amount of work experience. Any tips welcome.

I have student DC1 who's had various hospitality jobs.
Outline the skills he learned in the job, particularly those transferable to hospitality eg. Working as part of a team, dealing with customers, health and safety, time pressured role, handling money, managing time etc.
If your in touristy area they're desperate for hospitality staff so he's got good chance of being invited for a trial shift. Tell him to make sure they pay him for it though, if he's not being paid then only offer to do a couple of hours

I should also say DC1 got on better by emailing out her CV to local pubs and then dropping in to speak to the manager.

Following, as my teenage DD is looking for her first job. I'm thinking of putting her through a basic coffee course, as the cafes round our way need hands.

We were in a tourist area last weekend and noticed how short-staffed many places were. Many had Help Wanted signs and some were closed due to lack of staff. Got me thinking I wouldn't mind a leafy change of scene! 🌳

I'd agree on the transferrable skills, labouring and garden centre work sound quite physical jobs so I'd include that.

Does he have experience of handling a till / POS system?

Customer service?

Also why he wants to work in hospitality? Does he see it as a career or just a holiday job?

Does he have a driving licence and access to a car?

Does he have or know someone with a food allergy? Diabetes? Restrictions on eating for religious or cultural reasons.

So something like:

I am seeking employment in the hospitality sector as I like working as part of a team although I can take the initiative to work on my own when required.

I am punctual and hard working. I have gained skills from my previous work experience at X I learned A B C and at Y I gained skills in XYZ.

Initially I am looking to work over the summer before attending X University to study XYZ, and I will be available to work in university holidays including Christmas day (obviously don't put this if he won't be happy working Xmas).

I am willing to work in any part of the sector whether that be in kitchens, serving tables or collecting glasses and washing up.

I have access to a car in the evening so I am able to take shifts that end after public transport has stopped running.

I have a wide circle of friends from different cultures which has given me an appreciation of the difficulties some face whilst eating out due to allergy, culture or religeon.

That's really helpful, thankyou. He has his licence and his own car so can get himself around. Never handled money or a till but is pretty responsible. He's the eldest and has done a lot of babysitting. He's pretty personable and good with people and kids. Hospitality just seemed the obvious thing for a student and he likes the idea of working somewhere quite buzzy and busy like a stadium, theatre etc. He obviously has no idea of the hard work involved but he's the type that will see things through. He would work 6-10 some days on the building site.

He wants to work as much as possible from end of A levels in a few weeks until starting uni end of September. So I guess it's a temp/summer job he's after, although he'd be more than happy to go back and work in the holidays at Christmas, Easter and the following summer if it worked out.

Definitely put in the statement about kids and babysitting. And that he worked long hours as a labourer.

And good luck to him.
