Public speaking

Hi, I’m looking for advice on how to make public speaking easier. I’m 45, I graduated last year after a career change into an NHS job that requires a fair amount of public speaking. I deliver therapeutic programmes, I have done so previously in secure environments, all without much worry but put me in front of my peers or in an exam presentation situation (worst uni scores unless on teams!), and I’m a wreak. I had to talk about my job the other day (which I understand!) and I was in the loos half my lunch break crying and trying not to vomit, and I missed most of what was said prior to
my talk as I couldn’t stop worrying. This impacted on the two weeks before (when I found out) and the night after as I was still so wound up. Any tips would be helpful-I already use mindfulness and breathing techniques leading up to it and they work to an extent-no vomit-but it’s still so awful!

Practise
Practise
and
More practise.

Like most things - the more you do something, the easier it becomes.
Practise what you are going to say on your own, then in front of a mirror, then to a partner or friend or colleague, then someone else.
Do a small 'speaking in public' thing elsewhere first maybe?
It really is a case of getting used to it.
