Pay issue/question

Can anyone tell me if it is legal for my wages to be paid on a Sunday?

previously all wages have been paid last working day of the month (so for example December wages were paid on Christmas Eve)

Additionally I agreed to take a couple of days unpaid time off to help the company out cash flow wise as there isn’t a great deal of work currently, and the have used that as a reason for not paying me for Good Friday. Where do I stand here.

Relevant info is that I’m in the U.K. and have only worked for the company for 6 months or so. Also I don’t have a contract, and I am the only employee working under the two company directors (so no HR dept etc)

thanks 😊

Companies don’t typically make payments on Sundays, but I cannot for a moment imagine that there would actually be legislation about this. I find that a very bizarre question to be honest.

I don’t understand what you are saying about taking unpaid leave and Good Froday?

And by the way, you do have a contract. The fact that you were offered a job, accepted a job and started work there means you have a contract.

What you might not have, is a piece of paper that evidences your contract. I would ask your employer for your written statement of particulars, you should have received this on your first day.

I think you may be confusing separate issues here. Pay can be every week, four weeks, calendar month, often but not always last working day of month (but Christmas Eve would not have been) or nearest one to a fixed date if it falls on a weekend. Not sure what you mean by unpaid leave and Good Friday, were you laid off? Are you on a zero hours contract?Your leave should include some bh hours.

Legal? I'd think so.
Likely, unless you are paid cash? No - mainly because the banks don't work Sundays.

But there is still time for a bank transfer to go in today.

@AllDruggedUpWithNowhereToGo
Paying wages on a Sunday - It would have to be a direct payment as BACS is typically Monday to Friday. Whilst not typical, by the time you took action you would have been paid.

Not being paid for Good Friday - I assume the business was closed on the BH. They either owe you pay or a days paid holiday in lieu. This is unlawful deduction of wages.

What days did you take unpaid?

Do you have wage slips? If not, this is the most important piece of paperwork. My main concern would be are they paying the tax and NI deductions to HMRC, your payslips are evidence it has been deducted.

ACAS are probably the people who can help you the most.
