I used to be a business assistant had multiple enforced moves. Told I am an office manager. But I am now a receptionist. How do I proceed?

Do you mean a forced move? You were forced to change job role?

What are you trying to achieve? Do you want your job title to say Office Manager?

Dreamingoutloud4 · 26/04/2023 06:02

Yes forced moves. For business purposes are all admin roles classed as the same and interchangeable. You should be expected to switch?

Are you being paid as an office manager?

VerySneakySir · 26/04/2023 06:38

Check your contract as it may say in there. If it says you are an administrator who generally helps out as part of a team of admin assistants then you can be told to work on Reception.

If you are all the same level then it is not a demotion anyway, but if you really don't like working on reception then you could ask your manager not to assign that work to you. They could say no though if there is nobody else to do it

I am the only admin person left. I have spoken up and said they move me to unsuitable roles. Question is never answered.

Why are the roles unsuitable and what do you want to be doing?

Does your pay change?

If you are the only admin person, it's a bit defunct to be the office manager. You can't be your own manager.

GoodChat · 26/04/2023 08:10

If you're the only admin staff left surely your office manager covering reception duties?

GoodChat · 26/04/2023 08:10

*you're

Dreamingoutloud4 · 26/04/2023 09:07

Yes office manager covering reception. Also means i can't take holiday or have to cancel at the last minute as no cover.

Is it not your job to sort cover?

Dreamingoutloud4 · 26/04/2023 09:29

We don't use temps and there isn't another admin person to cover. Yes i have alerted HR. If anyone can give advice?

Get another job. The company you work for clearly don't care so go and work somewhere else

Katrinawaves · 26/04/2023 09:32

It is a legal requirement to allow you to take all your annual leave so if they won’t book cover for this, the reception needs to be unmanned whilst you are out. You need to have a conversation with HR about their expectations and not just assume that you can never have any annual leave. Though they can dictate when you take your holiday and prevent you booking it at particularly busy times for the company

Willmafrockfit · 26/04/2023 09:37

they will have to manage without a receptionist when you go on leave
