Does anyone know what sort of work this entails? I read the job spec and it seems right up my street, but it doesn't say what work it entails

Bump

I suspect that people who know what it entails probably can't tell you...

Does their ad have a contact email address or something you could ask for more information? Have you looked at their website to see if they explain anywhere a bit about what's involved?

Otherwise, I guess you'll have to apply and find out! Good luck!

LemonjeIIo · 30/04/2023 17:31

True!! I have already got quite far with the interview last time, but failed the phone interview

Possibly:I have 40 years experience working in National Security. When you say Admin Officer is that the job title or the grade. I would really need to know the grade to understand what the role is likely to entail. Even then I may not be able to give you the detail you seek for obvious reasons.

merryhouse · 30/04/2023 23:30

I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

Joking. Maybe.

Are you happy with "my country right or wrong"? Because that will be where you start.

LemonjeIIo · 01/05/2023 18:22

@EmpeBe well the ad says Senior Admin Officer. It's a drop in wages so want to be sure it's what I want
@merryhouse That sounds cryptic!!!

I'm guessing you're not the type of person they want if you post in open forums about having been interviewed by them 🤔

Yep agree to this!

RandomGeocache · 01/05/2023 19:20

I would imagine that posting that you're applying for an admin role on social media would be a hard no. As would be sharing details if you work there already.

This. You're not supposed to tell anyone other than very, very close family.

You can't even tell close family.

VivX · 01/05/2023 19:33

Literally nobody with knowledge worth sharing is going to reply to this, surely.

Did you not read their website?
A quick google gives: https://www.mi5.gov.uk/careers/i-can-at-mi5

"What does an admin officer do?
You’ll do lots of different things as you’ll work across a variety of departments. Each one offers a range of roles, diverse challenges and interesting insights. Day-to-day, you’ll be organising meetings, managing information and records, booking travel, looking after visitors and providing essential support to our intelligence officers. It’s all about helping us to run smoothly."

etc etc

Taken with the job description, the salary range and common sense, you could work out the basics?

But yeah, you've probably failed the first hurdle by posting here. Presume you also missed the quite clear instructions on their website about having to go through vetting:

"You should not discuss your application other than with your partner or a close family member, providing they are British. You should inform them of the importance of discretion. You should not post on social media about your application or discuss it with anyone else at this stage."

Purpleblob · 01/05/2023 19:44

It depends what grade but will be basic admin tasks with high level of attention to detail though asking about it on social media is a big no no and will ask further down the line

LemonjeIIo · 01/05/2023 19:49

Fair point everyone. I saw the ad online when I was on The Guardian website. I haven't got an interview, but I had one before. It's a big drop in wages so I wouldn't go for it anyway 😔

EmpeBe · 02/05/2023 01:26

Okay so it’ll be pretty mundane stuff - filing, arranging meetings, calendar management, minute taking etc. Not an operational role if that’s what you were hoping for.

I'm imagining this:

James, I'm looking at your expenses for the recent trip and you racked up 100K in cars alone. And no you can't put martinis on your expenses. I DON"T CARE IF IT'S A COVER. FFS James I'm cuttings off your purchase card. I'm serious Grin

It really doesn't matter. The vetting would trace postings linked to email addresses etc, and she'd be screened out straight away. You can research the role online to an extent, and it wouldn't take a huge leap to work out what "admin tasks" are, whether you work for MI5 or Asda, it's diary management, task management etc.
This post screams of someone with no discretion or common sense, so definitely not MI5 material.

Emmamoo89 · 02/05/2023 18:32

I personally wouldn't tell close family/partner as it potentially puts a target on their back.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 02/05/2023 18:34

Is this some kind of test by MI5 to find out if any employee is foolish enough to respond?
