Probation if moving internally

Do internal moves get to have to pass probation in your organisation, or do they have no probation in this case? Just recruited someone through an internal move (job was advertised externally and they applied through the extremal recruitment process). I have just been informed that there is no probation in this case which I am surprised to hear. Is this the same elsewhere

Where I work they would have a probation period when they move to a new job internally.

No probation for internal moves. I mean what would happen to them? They can’t go back to their old role as it will be presumably filled by then and the procedures for dismissing someone who has more service (albeit usually over 2 years) is totally different to someone who is in their first 3/6 months.

No probation but often a graduated pay rate if someone is moving up a grade to something they don't have direct experience of, so for example £50k initially with pay review at 6 and 12 months and possibility of increasing to £60k if milestones are met.

No probation where I work (council), but you would go under a performance review if you can't do the job after a reasonable amount of training and get managed out.

No probation period as they'd be subject to normal notice period.

Surely the benefits of an internal move is that the person's strengths and weaknesses are known and you know they aren't just talking a good talk at interview?

I'm having this issue currently. 2 internal movers, no probation period. They are both underperforming, they can't get out of training 6 months down the line so I'm having to go down the PIP, disciplinary route. It's a nightmare.

Probation had no relevance in law - it doesn't exist. For anyone. Someone doesn't cut the job, deal with it.

Interesting to see it seems quite common. Never came across this. Luckily they are doing a fantastic job.

I have never come across probation for an internal move.
