NHS internal timescales

Hi All
i know NHS recruitment can be really quite slow but just wondering if anyone has recent experience on timescales and how quickly they were able to start the new position?

so a bit of background - I started as a band 2 in January with no previous nhs experience. It took several weeks/months after the interview for all the checks to be completed and I really had to keep chasing them up.

this week I’ve been offered a band 3 position after a successful interview - and tbh really quite chuffed with myself - exactly the same department/service/trust. Just a higher band with more responsibility.
any ideas how long this would take to all go through officially with recruitment? I’m hoping quicker than last time! All the checks, references, ID checks, OH etc are all exactly the same as they were only completed at the end of last year.

anybody with recent experience of this and how it progressed?

thanks 😊

From what I've heard it can take just as long! Good luck.

I won’t get my hopes up too much for a quick start then!

Congratulations! There's no single answer here. It will depend on the Trust, their processes and the arrangements within the team. In theory it could be really quick, but it will depend on whether or not they need to fill your current role before you can move. I'd just ask your manager if they have an idea of the timeframes.

Thanks! I will have a word with her on Monday, I don’t think they will necessarily wait to replace me first as I have a feeling they’ll want to get my training started in the new part of the service asap. But as you say, speaking the the manager is the best bet to find out more and if there is a plan

@AXCS hopefully they'll have plan. Good luck in the new role 😀!

Your manager can ask for it be fast tracked.

Can't speak for elsewhere, but where I work I would just do a change form and get you started. As long as they don't want to wait for backfill like pp said.
You can probably check out your recruitment policies on intranet too and see what process is for internal candidates.
Congrats also ☺️

Well done. Dc has done exactly the same. Started in July as a band 2. Started on Monday as a band 3. Got offered the job beginning of February (probably10 weks). Had to do all the paperwork again. New criminal checks. Occupational health assessment everything. Then had to do the 2 day Trust induction (having only completed it in july). Seems a waste of time and resources.

Thanks all - some good advice and points made!

We managed to get someone through in this scenario in 10 days recently

Mumof1andacat · 22/04/2023 17:39

My last internal job was 2 weeks for an unconditional offer.

MirrorMirror1247 · 22/04/2023 17:46

I'm moving from a band 2 to a band 3 job in 3 weeks. I was offered the job about 5 weeks ago and I had an 8 week notice period, so it's all going pretty much on schedule. I've had emails confirming my new extension etc is already set up, so they're on the ball which is good. I'm NHS Scotland though so not sure if that makes a difference. I was waiting much longer for a start date for my current job so that I could quit my old one!

Really good to know it’s possible to do it all quickly! Thanks!
I will have a word with my managers and see what that they think and what the plan is
