My friend did this and did very well for a while, built up a big team and was some sort of management person. But the people above messe her around quite abit. Recently she mentioned to her manager she was thinking of cutting back or stopping, next thing she knows she's been shut out of the compyetr system, lost all her recruits and unable to get in to organise the parties she had booked She rang all her team and told them and they all quit!!

But generally I think it is quite good, seemed to work quite well for hewr for a few years it was just the people she happened to be working under were not very nice!

I do Body Shop at Home and love it. Great income + its your own business so you can run it how you want. Stories posted so far not my experience at all, but obviously I can't vouch for the whole company. I aim to finish every party by 10pm so although it's tiring after day with 2 dds at home, it's still good money and nice to talk about something other than children. Doesnt really feel like work to me. I've slowly built up team of 20, so its good income for me without being too much pressure. Let me know if you want more info.

Body Shop at Home, like My Secret Kitchen, has an ethical slant to it that gives the business an edge and is only going to help in the long run.

You know they are now owned by Nestle?

NomDePlume · 18/02/2008 21:38

Yes, they are a L'Oreal company. Ethics left through the same door as Anita Roddick

Smalldog · 18/02/2008 23:29

I don't agree with that last comment. TBSAH still dedicated to same values, still trading ethically, still no expensive marketing. Anita herself defended the sale to L'Oreal vigorously.

StripeyMamaSpanx · 18/02/2008 23:34

She may have defended it vigorously but that doesn't make it right.

bookwormmum · 18/02/2008 23:45

I went to a BS party a few years ago. It was ok but the girl cancelled a party one of the people had booked . I don't think she made as much money as she'd hoped - she was very young and trying to sell to older people - aged well into their 60s!!

It's probably best if you know loads of people who know people etc so you make lots of contacts.

NomDePlume · 19/02/2008 12:37

LOL @ "Anita herself defended the sale to L'Oreal vigorously"

Of course she did, she was the one who sold the bloody company to L'Oreal. She's hardly to going to agree to flog the company and then slag the potential parent company off, is she

She was laughing all the way to the bank.

Smalldog · 20/02/2008 00:29

Well, you've got to believe what you want really. The money that Anita and Gordon Roddick used to set up the Body Shop Foundation funds some incredible community-based organisations all around the country. Her ethics and values remained unchanged at the start of her business and at the sale of it. However, it's kind of off the point really. TBSAH is a great job if you are looking for pin money, for a nice little earner or for a great career. As an aside, you can do loads of fundraising for charity too, which is what me and most of the girls in my team do at every party. Wishing you luck whatever you decide.
