New job offer after accepting one

Hi All,

I need advice. I accepted a job offer verbally for job A and am due to start soon. Exact date hasn't been decided but approx couple of weeks.
I've received all the relevant paperwork but haven't yet signed etc.

I have been contacted by a company I interviewed with earlier and they weren't able to finish the interview process originally due to some issue and they would like me to reconsider the position. No offer made yet but it's highly likely they will make one.

Question is what do I do? If I get offered job B I would take it as it's considerably higher than job A. If I sign the contract for job A can I just pull out if I haven't yet started? Confused!

Why couldn't job B finish the job interview? This seems odd and possibly a red flag depending on circumstances? You have NO offer with them though- so don't count your chickens just yet!

Even if you signed paperwork for job A, I don't think you can be legally obliged to start on X date if your circumstances change. Could be wrong, so read the contract very carefully. If you don't have a union, ACAS might be able to help.

I interviewed someone, they had to give 3mths notice and the day before they were to start- said she'd been given a better off at her current company! I don't know what had been signed, as HR managed that, but it was SO frustrating!

Could you say to job A that you are checking over the contract and will let them know by X date- rather than leaving them in the lurch?

Just go back to company B and ask them what they had in mind. Starting the interview process from scratch? Making a job offer despite not finishing the interview process? If they know your situation, just politely tell them that you have to make a decision by X date but obviously can't make a decision until you have all the information.
Are company A making noise about you not having signed papers yet?
As PP said, even if you do sign, I'm not sure what they could do. Maybe if it's that type of industry, it could get around that you're unreliable, I guess, but I'm sure they can't sue you though

In theory, employer A can sue you for breach of contract if you pull out after accepting the offer. In practice, it is highly unlikely they will do so as it simply isn't worth it.
