Temporary roles

Would you expect the same level of training if you were starting a temporary job (6 month contract) as someone taken on permanently?

Depends ENTIRELY on the job 🙄

Depends on how long the training takes. Every time I've had a temp role of any length I've been expected to sit down in do the job immediately. Once I think I got 2 weeks training, vs the 3 yrs training permanent employees got! But for temp roles I've been hired because I didn't need any training, either because of specific industry knowledge or highly transferable skills.

Largely customer service based with a slightly harder to get your head around administration based focus. In this instance, the temporary staff will not be getting shown this administrative part of the role. Will be on same pay though.

I’m not least bit surprised on same pay of largely CS job without admin.

and they won’t be getting the financial benefits including pension you do

To be clear, I'm a temporary staff member and I started yesterday with 2 others. Was just feeling a bit put out like they couldn't be bothered to train me.

Yeah they won’t be bothered to train you and they will expect you up and running asap!

I worked in a payroll position for a firm with several thousand employees ( think of a partnership..) and they put me on the phones on payday within 3 weeks of starting. All permanent staff had at least 6 months of training before being let loose on the phones, I hadn’t even learnt how the system worked at this stage, however I did learn quickly and pick it up but it was exhausting and at times nerve wracking!

I did a six month contract not so long ago. I was part of a team of about ten who on the whole did a similar level of tasks. However some team members were shown all the tasks, I was shown a small number of tasks, enough to keep me occupied, but they opted not to overly invest in training me on everything when there was no need and it would have been purely to give me more variety.

They need to CS skills sooner than the admin skills, hence why you are there. They will train you on the easier part of the role so you are up and running faster. Then the perm staff will be learning the whole thing so by the time your FTC is up, they are fully competent. Makes perfect sense, have seen in many times in large companies.
