What other jobs can a nurse apply for if you want out of nursing?

As title says. Got to get out of nursing. Have applied for a few civil service roles at lower wages, emphasised transferable skills etc.
No idea what I actually want to do, totally lost, but I’m thinking admin work would be good just now as that’s something I enjoy.

Anyone have any words of wisdom?

Are you looking for a job or alternative career path?

Is there anything specific you'd like to leave behind (or keep) from your current role in terms of culture, hours, skills etc? What do you want life to look like post-nursing?

If you're thinking administration (whether for now or long term), cast your net more widely out into private sector.

That’s just the thing, I feel so lost! I think I was very disillusioned going into nursing and had no idea what the reality was like.
I’ve definitely realised I’m not a people person. I liked the thought of helping people but it soon became apparent you never got any thanks for it so I’ve no desire to do that again either.
I honestly think I’d like a more sit down job, something with computers hence why I’m thinking administration or something similar. But in terms of where to go now with my career I feel very lost.

They are alot of jobs for disability assessors, ie for the government and if applicants are eligible for PIP benefits.

State they require medical staff with state registration.

Also Universities are looking for trained nursing to teach or help with degree courses (im in South West and UWE and looking for people to work on their medical courses ).

Whilst you are state registered there probably will be more options.

Maybe research or would there be clerical jobs within hospitals that would require a nursing background?

If you want to get out of medical type work altogether then maybe pursue the civil service as its such a varied organisation and your experience would be transferable

What about being a medical rep? With your skills I bet you’d be snapped up. These jobs often get a decent salary, bonuses and company car too!

Or a benefits assessor? Tonight I think that’s a fairly pressured job and whe I looked into it I wasn’t comfortable with the criteria and strict time fra,e that the assessments had to be completed in

You could also consider working for a private health insurance company. Most have case managers (from experience mostly ex-nursing staff - some with specialisms) who ensure the claims are in line with the expected treatment paths.

Well you'll certainly have lots of transferrable skills - it's about how you communicate this to potential new employers.

Check out the National Careers service - https://nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/ for general info on CV / application form wording and the types of jobs / career you can look at.

As a former nurse I can confirm there is life after nursing and plenty or jobs and careers which will give you a descent income and job satisfaction

A poster has already mentioned disability assessor.
I think many of these jobs are remote so you wouldn’t have to mix with too many people

If you want to stay in the nhs there are many ex nurses as head of stat and mand training, lead clinical systems managers, occupational health roles or rostering managers

Hi, i know this post is from April but wanted to reply.
Have you considered moving into lecturing at a university?

There are lots of opportunities for training and further study and its a far nicer environment to work in.

I left nursing last December and it was the best decision ever, but by lecturing in adult nursing I keep my pin number and get to help future nurses on their journey.
