Anyone have a remote job based in London but they live up north?

Hello,

Looking for ideas for a change. My background is medical science (NHS) and, more recently, management and quality management. I’m looking to change direction as I’ve ended up somewhere that is awful (old fashioned, hasn’t been run properly, massive workload and I lack interest in the field as it’s different to my medical science field).

I am free of kids soon (once my boy goes off to university in September) and I would like to work remotely but based from London with trips to London monthly (or even weekly). It’s something I have thought about for a while. Does anyone do this and what do you do?

I was thinking of applying to one of the UK Health Security Agency roles as a lot are remote.

If the UKHSA is of interest there are lots of other civil service organisations that have bases much closer to the north than London that do hybrid. I'm midlands commuting into London occasionally, the time doesn't bother me (2 hours door to door) but it's pricey.

(I go in twice a month but it's unofficial so I could be forced to go in)

I work in London and live in north London. Several people in my company do live a distance away, some moved before 2020, some since. Those I have spoken to about it do have someone they can stay with near or in London if needs be (relative for example).

Check if theory of how often is the reality, and also whether or not the train service from anywhere you choose is reliable. I assume the Health Security Agency is such that working on a train may be limited.

I travel from Newcastle once a week, but don't need to be in the office till 12pm so it's manageable, if a little tiring
I don't recommend office visits on Mondays, ruins the vibe on Sundays!
