Would this look bad on my cv?

Up until December 2021, I’d been in my job 12 years. I moved within the same sector but another town and lasted 5 months. Lots of reasons, one being not believing in myself to try something completely different and jumping at the first thing that came along to the owner of that business sadly passing away. The business has since closed down.

The job that I now have (1 year) is good in terms of the work and the people I work beside but I cannot stand management and the environment they create. I am just not sure if it’s something I will get used to. Previous jobs have been formal office environments that are regulated. Think Chartered Accountants. This role is in Building and Construction so very different.

I am considering going back to what I know but I think I will keep going for another 6 months or so making my current job 18 months.

If you saw a 12 year job, a 5 month job and an 18 month job on a CV, would that worry you if you were recruiting?

No, it’s fine

No, I don’t think it would. People move on from jobs for all sorts of reasons.

It's fine.

Thank you all. This is reassuring.

Hi.

I'd say that's completely normal, My first job was at John Lewis lasted ten years, I was then over ten years elsewhere then the Company went bust, I was approached by an ex competitor, started there and we just didn't get in so I lasted 6 months. Then went to another company where the owner did nothing but shout and ball at people, managed a year, you see how can you tell these things before you start ? So I had twenty steady years then two short ones !

You will be fine !

In the last few years, OP, covid is your perfect excuse here.

You lost your long term job and found some fillers.

It was actually true for me. I was made redundant then moved into a role I knew wasn't going to be forever. I got pregnant so stayed longer than planned (just under 2 years) and now am somewhere I expect I'll stay for a very long time.
