Long term sickness

Good morning,

I'm just looking for some advice. I'm currently off work since start of feb. I have a back/hip issue that I am currently awaiting treatment for. Due to waiting lists I am looking at private treatment options
This has been an issue for over 2 years almost. Due to my current job which involves a lot of moving and handling/personal care and coupled with the doctors saying the issue won't ever go away only progress as I get older I am looking at alternatives for a new job.
Am I allowed to look while off sick? I love my job but in the long term it won't make my back issue any better over time and I need to think of myself and my family.

Has anyone looked at jobs while off sick and or been offered one?
Thank you

Yes, you are allowed to look for other jobs. Just be honest because your sickness absences are very likely to show up on references. Reassure potential employers that your condition is not going to be an issue in a new job and this is about being honest and realistic about the future.

Yes you absolutely are allowed because your current job is no longer suitable for you due to a health condition.
As PP says be honest with potential employers about reason for moving jobs as your sickness absence record may well show in a reference (many employers ask for number of days in past year as part of reference)

Thank you for your reply. I was just worried as I don't want it to cause trouble with my current employer. I'm waiting pain injections but even then it won't solve my issue in the long run. Just hope they can understand x

As long as the job is different to your current job it should be fine
