So, got back to work after a year on mat leave and found my job advertised on intranet at £5k more than I get!

Basically they had advertised my job internally after I had been on mat leave for 6 months as they are entitled to do as they don't have to keep my exact job open till I return.

Except it looks like the salary bandings have changed since I was away so I am now £5k below the salary banding for the job I do.

I spoke to my manager about it and it is being flagged with HR.

I know they'll try and get away without bringing my salary up to the banding.

If they do what other recourse do i have?

Oooo I forgot about that - it was in a kebab I had a few weeks ago - I thought it looked like a dog willy so popped a pic of it on so my post-natal thread could have a laugh

trixy you have to return on the same terms and conditions as if you hadn't been away. So if your job has been evaluated as being in a different salary band that should apply to you.
You are right, if you take additional maternity leave they don't have to offer you the exact same job if it's not practical to do so. But you must not suffer a detriment as a result of your maternity leave. So, if your salary would have increased if you had not been on maternity leave, then you should benefit.

I'd apply for the job on the intranet, personally, and see how they take it from there.

Bloody cheek of them.

flowerybeanbag · 14/02/2008 11:30

Or that.

trixymalixy · 14/02/2008 20:20

The job was advertised almost 6 months ago so the closing date is well past, otherwise i would apply for it!!

i think they've actually made a mistake with the bandings as when people qualify at my work they move up from band 3 to band 2, but i know that the salary qualifiers get is about £10k below the salary banding for band 2. So there must be quite a few people below the bands published on the intranet. i think they will just add a new banding now they are aware of the issue rather than upping salaries.

Woo-hoo, they approved my pay rise!!!

Well it's not actually a pay rise, it's just bringing me up to the salary level I should be on.

No need to take any other recourse thank god!
