Look elsewhere?

As the title says really, I'm just looking for some opinions. I changed jobs 2 months ago within the health sector to a team based role that seems virtually non existent with no real idea what my role is (nobody knew what my predecessor did either?!). I have been told by my manager I should spend a week with our 'sister' division to shadow what my equivalent there does. Have to say all seems very odd. The rest of the team I work with have their own specific tasks but are not the same grade/profession. I was led to believe I would be taking a role to replace my replacement. Do I start looking elsewhere basically or see this strange situation through?

Well, why don't you actually do what your manager suggests and shadow your 'sister' division first and see how that goes first? Why has it taken 2 months for this to be suggested? Surely your manager must have noticed your sitting around doing sweet FA all day long

Thank you. The previous manager left the week before I started so they have just employed someone on a FTC. In fairness I have been given lots of other ad hoc and short projects to work on but nothing specific and I have been very busy. I will of course shadow our other division but I just wondered if this should be a red flag and think of making a move because I have absolutely no idea how this job move will turn out!

I would do the shadowing and try to find out more about your own team if possible. You might find you can make the role your own and mould it as you please! IF you have quiet time with literally nothing to do, then go online and do training. I don't know your sector, but either something to help with CPD or something else that you are interested in.

I would stick with the job unless its really dire. I stuck with a shit job for 8mths- my main reason being that it looks better on a CV than leaving after a month.
