Paying back bonus - will I get tax and NICS back?

Hi all,

I hope someone with some payroll knowledge might be able to help me out. I am leaving my current job, however in August 07 my company relocated and we were given a bonus of 1,800 to cover costs for 12 months. If we left before August 08 it was explained that we would have to pay back pro rata what we owed. I am leaving end Feb 08, so will owe 6 months back. What I am confused about is that last August I paid extra tax, national insurance and student loan because of the higher earnings. In the end the bonus came out at about 1,100. Now they are going to take back 800 or so, will I get the extra tax, NICs and student loan back in my final pay? Or will I have to contact the Inland Revenue? Hope someone can help.

SO long as you get it sorted before the end of the tax year, then yes, then they should be able to sort it, at least for tax/NI, I am unsure about the student loan. I'd be interested to see how they are going to calculate it though...

Thanks Mary. Anyone else have any thoughts? I would speak to accounts dept but it's a lady who I really don't like and would rather not have to speak to her about it.
