Anyone else struggling to find work?

I'm unfortunately unemployed and desperately seeking a new role as I'm so lonely and losing my mind.

Jeremy Hunt said there are <insert vast number here> roles in the UK on the Find a Job government website...

Well, I just had a look (Usually use LinkedIn and Indeed) and most of the roles on there in my area are

  1. self employed leaflet distributors
  2. NHS consultants
  3. self employed cleaners for £10 PH

Disappointed, dismayed and shocked. Is anyone else struggling to find a role?

Have you got a hospital near you ? Look on NHS jobs , local hospital and ICB.

rosiebl · 30/03/2023 23:50

Where are you based roughly op?

Unemployednobody · 31/03/2023 08:56

Hey @rosiebl, don't want to be too specific but I'm South. Where cities are more like large deprived towns and the main employment is Seasonal.

@America12 I went to a recruitment open day last weekend for the hospital. They're struggling to recruit and they said they have nothing suitable for me. They only want admin / office staff with previous health or social care experience. They're desperate for people but I was basically laughed out the building. Such sad times. The NHS office roles pay well too! I'd love a role at the hospital. One of my friends works there from home and she's often in the South of France being a medical secretary.

@Unemployednobody that's terrible. The NHS are crying out for staff 🤬

Unemployednobody · 31/03/2023 09:12

@America12 I know and they have just spent loads of money on advertising their skills shortage on buses. Yet here I am with 15 years of Administration experience, can pick up new software in a jiffy, LOVE people and have an empathetic nature, all the qualifications up to BSc and I'm not good enough for an admin role. Weird!

It's miserable isn't it? I feel that anything I look at I don't have the right skills for. I'm also working for my husband at the moment and I'm not enjoying it very much!

I am sorry for the way you were treated in your local NHS recruitment day. Why dont you go ahead and apply for jobs there anyway? You can apply even for a band 2 and once you tick the box of Healthcare experience you can apply for higher bands quickly enough. Another way is applying to agencies. i worked with a guy who couldn't get a job a therapy assistant due to no previous experience in Health & Social care. We went to an agency and voila, 1 week after he was working as one.
I have recently recruited for admin staff and in some roles, H&S experience is NOT essential. I have called people for interview with no such experience.
Summing up: 1. search for admin NHS jobs and apply anyway. 2. If no luck try agency
