Hello all, I am wondering if it's worth paying for and taking the above course (I believe is for project management)

I already have my Masters but finding it difficult to get a good job and a friend suggested this course

Prince2 is mainly used by the civil service and local government. Agile project management is typically wider used in the private sector. What specific area of project management are you looking to get into? The qualification alone won't help with jobs, you may need to look at project assistant roles to get some experience while studying the qualification and then apply for PM/APM roles with some experience and the recognised qualifications. Good luck!

I think you may need to choose a qualification that you understand and is relevant to your degree. Project managing in construction for example, is completely different to IT development. You need to understand your targeted business sector. Simply choosing a course and doing it won't work if you don't understand how the approach will be applied in a specific industry

Depends what sector you're going into. I did it a few years ago and haven't used it since, organisation just isn't set up like that.

Mainly helpful in IT.

Do you have any experience of project work?

If not, the qualification will probably be a bit lost on you to be honest. You would be at far to inexperienced a stage to make use of it and be employed as a project manager.

It's best to get some experience first working as a project worker/ project officer/ project coordinator. This is a qualification that people take when they are about to move/ have moved into management.

Prince 2 is largely used as a measure of project/ programme procurement expertise - so the civil service, for example, often expects it when procuring large programmes of work. Local government may use it similarly, but seldom recruit / train based on it because it's too damned expensive. And I say that as someone who holds Prince 2.

OP, if I may be blunt, even if you could obtain the qualification I can't think of anyone who would employ you without experience - the experience usually comes first, then the qualifications. It is a lot of money, and in no way will guarantee you a "good job" - whatever that means. With respect, there may be a lot of reasons why you aren't getting a "good job", and having a Masters degree isn't necessarily a guarantee either (and I say that as someone with 2 Masters and a PhD!). My employment (and I am more than happy with my job as being "good) is not based on the Prince 2, or the degrees. It is based on those things and decades of skills and experience. If you have little or no skills and experience to offer, no qualification is going to get you any further than entry level unless you are very lucky. We (large public sector organisation) are frequently employing graduates and Masters as admin staff, and they are lucky to get those roles - it's the foot in the door to gain more skills and experience to move on with. With few exceptions in shortage areas (social workers for example) there is no "good job" to be had unless you are in the door and prove yourself.

You may be better explaining what feedback you have had, what you think a good job is and what you are looking for a job as. And definitely not going for project management just because you think it's a good job but don't know what it is - many people hate project management.

Beware of online Project Management courses by PeopleCert. Terrible, with no support and you have to sit the exam at home with a person watching you via webcam .

I don't know the company but all my exams were sat with people watching me. What kind of exams worth doing aren't invigilated?

If you’ve not got any project management experience, then PRINCE2 is a waste of time.

I’m doing PRINCE2 but I’ve got years of project experience, and I just want the official certification as certain levels of project roles in the NHS require it as a minimum standard, as well as the experience to go with it

I work in the railway industry and lots of my colleagues use it, as project planning software.
