WFH with sick child.

Does anyone who WFH inform their employer they have a sick child at home? I have a 7 year old DD off with me today, and she is not a bit of bother but I always feel like I cannot tell my employer she is off with me as I feel like that will think its an inconvenience. I only work for 6 hours of a day so it's not a long day, and I work like I would if she wasn't here. Apart from checking on her and offering drinks and food. Anyone else feel like this WFH with a sick child?

I tell my boss and because it happens about once a year he isn’t remotely fussed.

Probably not a 7 year old, but 5 or younger yes.

Not a 7yo as you can mostly dispense them in front of a film, on the sofa with books, or otherwise keep them occupied.

A toddler you'd have to fess up about

I don't know why I feel like this because she does not get in the way of work. And I am lucky she can be at home with me. I find WFH I'm never wanting to look like I am taking the p. I hardly leave my desk once I start work, incase anyone rings and I don't answer the phone and they think I am not working. Whereas if I was in the office it would not bother me if I was away from the desk.

I have a toddler and she is in nursery all week. I understand if she was sick I would have to tell them. That would be impossible to work while looking after a toddler.

I wouldn't unless you had to decline a meeting or temporarily leave one.

Just keep your mouth shut.

Yes because it highlights benefits of WFH and that if I'd been required in the office I'd be taking a days leave and business would suffer.

"Hi boss, just to let you know I have 7yr old home from school sick today but they're not a bit bother and I'm working like I usually would. I'll make up hours tonight if I need to."

I also make sure to highlight that dp will take his turn the next day if they're still unwell.
