999 Call Handler - time between interview and start date

Wondering if anyone has any insight.

There are posts available locally for 999 Call Handlers and I'm considering applying, closing date mid-April.
I will be completing my university course at the end of May.
Does anyone know how much time there is between interview and start date? (If I were to be accepted, of course!) Or is it really quite variable?
Unsure whether to hedge my bets applying this time or waiting for another round of recruitment.

Thanks!

Police recruitment can be a long process due to vetting. When I applied back in 2017, mine took four months and a colleague took seven months. I know they were working to improve that though.
I don’t know if it’s the same across all the emergency services. I’d be inclined to put an application in now. Often they have recruitment Q&As you can ask.

I'd apply. Your situation is no different to someone else currently in employment needing to give a month or two of notice.
Additionally, the closing date isn't the same as interview or decision date, so those things will add time onto the process. Late May/early June seems like a reasonable start time to me, with that closing date.

Wasn't expecting such quick responses! Probably should have added that it's for the Ambulance Service. Figured that NHS recruitment can take some time, and so this branch might be the same.

Think I'll apply anyway and see what what comes of it.

They have to allow you at least a month between offer and start date as many people will be in employment and have to give that much notice, if not more. So just based on that alone without adding in shortlisting and interview time, then you should definitely apply. Your course will be well finished before any potential start date. Good luck!

Sorry to be clear, of course they don't "have to" allow you a month, no employer has to allow a prospective employee any length of time in particular before starting. However, employers do recognise that most people are already working and not sitting around waiting for the perfect job to appear, so a month is probably the shortest, and most common notice period.

Turnover in ambulance call centres is high so there's a constant round of recruitment, so I'm guessing there's a good chance they would be able to start you quickly - but it's only a guess!
