I was let go from a contract role at 2 months pregnant (they didn't know). Do I take a 6 month role at a higher rate, save as much as I can and then reply on mat leave allowance during my time off or should I try and find a full time job?

I was on a contract until September when I'm due to have my baby. But it got cut short and ended abruptly leaving me 3 months pregnant and looking for a new job. It seems easier to find a contract role as less commitment from the company at a time when companies seem uncertain of their future. Am I wise taking a contract role and trying to save as much as possible before mat leave or should I really be trying to find a full time contract that will provide me with some mat leave security and where I can go back after I've had my baby. For the record I'm interviewing and big multinational companies so they should be equipt to deal with mat leave rather than small, family owned business who j know struggle.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Did anyone feel better having a job to go back to or did some wish they didn't have to go back or have the pressure to return etc.

I appreciate circumstances play a big part. My partner does earn okay money + so he could help support me during mat leave (which I am v grateful for) . But I'd just need to make a number of cuts to my spending. And I know babies are expensive.

So sorry for all the info. Appreciate just any friendly thoughts or advise.

Well by far the most expensive part of having a baby is the childcare/loss of earnings, so there’s that…
In your shoes I’d apply for anything interesting, within reason- basically throw things at the wall and see what sticks! You may find you need to stop working a little earlier due to how your pregnancy develops, so you don’t really have very long to be terribly picky.
