Hi, sorry if this is too long.
I'm 38 and a mum of one toddler. I have lots of experience in administrative roles with marketing/sales support. I'm looking for some help/suggestions on how to move my working life forward. I currently have a job that is quite junior and more menial than my previous roles. I was living in a smaller town when I got that role and now live back in London, working remotely. Honestly feeling a bit bored and wanting something that pays better and is more interesting.
I'm wondering about career coaching, but when I peruse sites I always end up thinking it's not for me because I have never really had much of a 'career' with continuity and ladder climbing. I've just never prioritised it because I was more focused on things like travel and family and friends in my earlier adult life. I always worked hard, earned well enough, and supported myself (until I had my son), but I wouldn't say I've ever been super ambitious or focused, and I've ended up kind of a jack of all trades (master of none). Now I want to explore my options a bit more, figure out where and how I can get a more specialist role that takes into account, and builds on what experience I do have.
Could a career coach help with that? I feel like I need/want objective guidance to try and sort my head out about where to put my energy and investment. I just get put off by the language that their websites always seem to use, like "balancing your home life with a 'big' job", "do you have a high flying career but you want a change?" Etc. I end up thinking well that doesn't apply to me, and shuffle back to my box. I guess I feel lost, unconfident in my professional worth, and kind of unsure where to aim.
Has anyone in a similar situation used a career coach or sought other outside help for ideas on how to break out of this confidence crisis I've found myself in? Recommendations would be really appreciated!
