old school job applications

I just applied for a job listed on Indeed. They sent me a 14 page Word document to fill in. They've requested it to be handwritten and personally handed into their office by midday today.

Has anyone else experienced similar?

I'm sat here laughing because 1) enough red flags to decorate a carnival and 2) It's like being back in 1999

the problem with recruiting at the moment is the thousands of people who will apply for random jobs that they are completely inappropriate for, with a few mouse clicks on a computer. as a recruiter you then have to sift through mountains of junk to find the small number of serious contenders
a process like that will limit the pool to serious contenders only. they may already have an internal candidate or known parent of a pupil who would be appropriate to appoint and they don't need loads of other candidates.

Thats fair. But they've been advertising since December. 😂 can see why now

Having checked Glassdoor - it's obviously a terrible place to work!

Honestly some of the school support staff applications I've had to fill out. They're all word table format which lose coherency and their format as soon as you start typing anything. Spend most of my time when applying fixing the tables than actually answering the format.

The best one was for a school which still had <insert school logo here > at the top

Maybe its an educational thing!!

In lockdown I saw one that had "Office 2000" typed in the very top header in tiny lettering 😂

Some organisations for professional positions like teachers etc may still operate like this…
I personally think it’s outdated on many levels? 14 pages? Ridiculous?
A piece of paper does not tell you whether someone is qualified for a job.
I get you need to gather information etc, but there’s a lot you can get during interview process or even hire stage.

At least they'll know who can actually write and who relies on auto correct! If that's important for the role obviously.
