Moving to Blackpool area

Good Evening.
I have been offered promotion through work, in the NHS
I would have to relocate from the Lake District area to the Blackpool area.
I have been looking at housing in Blackpool, Bispham and Thornton and Cleveleys.
I like the look of Lytham but its very expensive for housing there.
I read and heard from some colleagues that some areas near the town centre of Blackpool can be quite rowdy, so maybe the Bispham / Thornton area might be better and quieter
I heard that Cleveleys is prone to flooding, don't know if it's all of that area though
I'd love to move to the area now my children are independent, though DH is a little apprehensive as he heard off some of his colleagues that there's a lot of deprivation in the area.
I'd be working in the NHS to improve services in the area and would love to contribute to making the area a better place for all
Any advice would be really appreciated.

Try poulton le fylde. Decent restaurants, pubs and cafes and a lovely big Booths.

Yes you need to be picky about where, alas I don't have enough local knowledge.

I agree Poulton is lovely.

How close to you want to be to commute? Is Garstang too far?

Dahlialala · 03/03/2023 21:06

Thank you, I don't mind the commute.
Hopefully, if things go well with the new job, I will have a pay rise, so I may be able to afford a bit further afield.
Thank you 🙂

If you are happy to live rurally there are plenty of lovely villages.

St. Michael on the Wyre, Preesall are a couple

Poulton, staining

Poulton (little market town, decent food and bars, a park, some good schools)

Hambleton/Stalmine/Preesall (slightly more rural)

Parts of St Anne's (don't know it well but from driving through it looks lovely these days! Plus close to nice stretch of beach)

Parts of Thornton? Not much of a 'centre' to it, though

Some bits of Blackpool are alright and the town centre is undergoing some big changes. But even the nice areas (round Stanley Park) are only a few roads away from the... less nice bits. And I can say that having once lived in them, haha.

(As an aside - I've known occasional bits of flooding in Cleveleys over the last few decades but only the roads - not the houses. Although my granddad remembers Cleveleys flooding so badly he rowed to work in the 60s!)
