A thread for people who are waiting to hear if they’ve been shortlisted

slamfightbrightlight · 01/03/2023 10:54

Come join me on the “pointlessly refreshing my inbox” sofa while we wait to hear if we’ve jumped the first hurdle.

Been in a grump with work this week and spotted a vacancy elsewhere that closed yesterday. Managed to slip an application in before the deadline. Might chuck a couple more speculative applications in elsewhere, just to torture myself a bit more.

Anyone else waiting to hear? What kind of role have you gone for? How long have you been waiting? Come distract me from my unreasonable expectations for how long it should take them to shortlist!

Did you hear back? Were you shortlisted? I'm waiting to hearback about a grade 2 job with the NHS. I'm starting to think I haven't got an interview 😕

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 12/03/2023 15:08

I'm waiting to hear about one job that I had two interviews for but I don't think I've been successful even though they told me the feedback to HR would be "glowing". I didn't hear anything for one week then I contacted the recruiter for feedback and haven't heard back so I think that says it all.
I do have an interview at the end of march for another role, in the civil service, at the end of the month. But I do have a job so I'm not too fussed about any of it tbh!

slamfightbrightlight · 12/03/2023 16:03

I’m still waiting! Hope you both get a response this week - it’s really tedious waiting even when, like you @Hungrycaterpillarsmummy , I already have a job so there’s not loads riding on it.

I'm waiting to hear back after the first live interview, I passed a psychometric test, and a video interview before that. Next steps would be an "informal conversation" with the boss's boss, which essentially means "does your face fit" as far as I can tell.

I really, really want it. My job now is fine, and I'm happy to stay put for as long as it takes to find my way up the next rung of the career ladder. But I want this one.

TooTiredToArgue · 14/03/2023 08:17

I’m waiting to hear back from gruelling interview last week. I think in this case, no news is bad news. I hope you hear something soon....

NineToFiveish · 14/03/2023 09:56

This organisation has been fairly prompt in their communication from the start, I would hope that continues either way. Fingers crossed for everyone waiting.

Emptymug · 14/03/2023 12:13

Dd had a second interview a couple of weeks ago, radio silence, she contacted them to ask for an update and was told they were reflecting on feedback to give her - I assume that means she didn't get it.

TooTiredToArgue · 14/03/2023 18:46

I’ve just had a ‘Dear John’ voicemail. 🙁
Personally, I’d much prefer bad news in an email, rather than have someone tell you you haven’t made the grade.

I spent so long on this application, so it’s very disappointing and disheartening.

Hope everyone else has better luck!

NineToFiveish · 14/03/2023 18:55

Oh no, @TooTiredToArgue , that's so disappointing. I would feel the same as you about a voicemail.

pingugopoo · 14/03/2023 18:58

Waiting to hear about what sounds like a dream job. I've done 2 rounds of interviews with an external recruiter and waiting to meet the internal line manager. If I make it that far, there are 3 stages to the internal process.

The job will be 100% WFH with an almost 100% pay increase. Dream job.

C'mon, call me...

slamfightbrightlight · 14/03/2023 19:40

Sorry to hear that @TooTiredToArgue - a voicemail is bad form!

Two weeks and counting for me. I’m feeling mentally very checked out of my current role so if this one doesn’t pan out I think I’m going to have to keep looking for something to give me my mojo back.

Sounds fab @pingugopoo - best of luck! Three internal interviews sounds like a lot of work

How do you find those??? My default position is to assume if it pays twice what I’m on now, I’m probably not the right candidate 😂😂

Sorry didn’t add this one correctly, it was in response to @pingugopoo 😅

NineToFiveish · 14/03/2023 20:27

@Notmyyearthisyear I just go for it - men apply for roles when they meet 60% of the criteria, so why shouldn't I do the same?

I was working part time a few years ago and now make 5x what I used to, hybrid working in a solid organisation. It's tough to apply and get rejected, but that's the game.

Although that is absolutely dreadful I do think my experience perhaps tops that. I applied to one of the City regulators (so perhaps more Civil Service type recruiting style). I am well qualified and could do the job. Submitted CV and personal statement, asked to complete a task which "should" take an hour. It took me over 10 hours. I was pleased with my submission, interviewed a couple of weeks later. All went well. Then silence. A month later I received an email from the organisation to ask, if I was still looking for work, would I like them to keep my details on file. I replied fairly quickly to say that I would have preferred to have heard directly that I wasn't being offered the role, rather than through implication, but could I please get feedback and that I had feedback on my experience with the organisation. Their feedback to me was total waffle; mine back to them wasn't. I now think the nature of the business task was to actually gain ideas and views for a new project, without paying consultancy fees - get 20+ decent candidates to submit a project proposal and it's good information.

But it is horrid the waiting.

Boobahs · 14/03/2023 20:39

Waiting to hear if I've been shortlisted for an NHS job but not sure how long the process usually takes.

Got two forms all waiting to be submitted into schools, but went to visit one today and it's a big no from me! And the other one won't response about going to visit after 3 emails and 3 calls, so I'm not hopeful about that either.

Need something to come along soon as I'm being made redundant ☹️

pingugopoo · 14/03/2023 20:40

@Notmyyearthisyear I currently earn £40k in a job that is Head of ... I'm applying for other roles with same job title but a minimum of £75k. I think I'm worth it. I believe I'm underpaid right now and have also asked for a raise. I've not been told how much they plan to offer, but I know a significant raise has been put in to the budget for next year and is awaiting final approval. If it's less than £70k I'm going to keep looking.

I'm also disabled, never sick, I just have some physical limitations which means I can't do some jobs that need lots of travel between sites or v long days etc. I know it will take time to find the right role but I'm willing to stick it out. I won't take another sideways move.

RoryMcGory · 15/03/2023 06:47

I'm waiting to hear if I've been shortlisted for my dream role, PT with good salary and close to home. The job closed on 10th February.
I've held off applying for other jobs so I hope the wait is worthwhile.

Had an interview back in December for a role, still waiting to hear. I don't think I got that one, so rude.

NineToFiveish · 15/03/2023 07:35

It really makes me cross when organisations don't bother to update candidates. On the one hand I think it's a bullet dodged, because if they can't even do that right, how are they treating actual employees? But to be left waiting for weeks on end is soul destroying!

You definitely deserve it.

Don't automatically assume this. I recently landed a role that pays me 50% more than my previous role, obviously not double but a salary I never imagined being offered at this stage of my career. You are worth it!

Sunshineandrainbow · 15/03/2023 08:55

I have applied for a sheltered housing officer role and waiting to hear.
Have been with NHS 25 years so keeping going through in my head about leaving that if I am lucky enough to get the new role which will be council.

SisterA · 15/03/2023 15:10

Ohhh I needed to find this. Applied for a total career change job last week. Closing was Sunday. Yet to hear back but abbbbbsolutely desperate. Have a job currently so it's a fortunate position to be in. I just really want out of where I am now...

NineToFiveish · 15/03/2023 16:27

Still waiting on an update for my interview, but in other news I have a screening call invitation for a different role. So at least all my eggs aren't in one basket!
