Hourly rate for this role?

whenthelightsgoout26 · 01/03/2023 09:27

Hi all

I'm looking for some advice.

My current role is a mix of several different job roles.

So I:
-maintain the company website, adding, removing info, photos, updating any changes

-make reels and posts for social media we have one instagram and two accounts for Facebook. researching hot topics, music, photographs and coming up with ideas that link to our field of work.

-training coordinator, so I research and find new courses, book staff on to these, send out all the information to staff, make changes. Attend staff meetings and give my knowledge. Update all our training forms so all staff are on there, we have had several training platforms we use so add/remove staff from all of these.

  • assess our business against standards (like an ofsted inspection),

I'm very underpaid for the work I do, majority is work from home. I haven't changed jobs as it has fitted around children, one disabled and I don't have to pay out for childcare. I have been feeling a bit undervalued with work as I do a lot, I'm always on call for issues etc. my pay certainly doesn't reflect that. As it's a mix of a job, what would you say an hourly rate would be?

It depends where in the country you are? London would be more than Lincolnshire for instance.

Website- are you writing copy? Or do people
give you the info and you are using an interface to upload?

social media - are you qualified in pr/marketing? Are you developing strategy and have you experience of reputation management?

training - I’d say this is an admin role.

So I guess I’m asking if you present to the board a strategy and plan the direction of the marketing, or are you kind of flying by the seat if your pants and making it up as you go along.

The admin side of the job £28k but marketing specialist could be £40k

5oclockclub · 01/03/2023 09:39

I’d say around £18/hr outside London.

I’d agree with this.

Paperexcelandpens · 01/03/2023 09:40

Are any qualifications needed for this role? I did all of this (except assess against business standards ) as a volunteer on a committee for a hobby so to me it doesn't sound like it should pay very high but I obviously don't know the details or what qualifications etc are needed.

OldTinHat · 01/03/2023 09:42

I charge £10 ph for doing exactly this as a freelancer.

fruitbrewhaha · 01/03/2023 09:43

I forgot the compliance stuff. Is it legislation? A legal framework or like ISO? Have you implemented a way of checking off that all work is compliant? Are you the last post for this and therefore all staff have to comply to your requests. Or do you pass on this info for someone else to enforce? A compliance administrator would be on £28k but the managers who do the bollocking would be on more.

The area I work in is education. I have a teaching degree and I am a qualified teacher. I'm in the south if that makes any difference.

No qualifications for websites or social media but I have had training on social media- it is marketing also.

It totally depends on the business and your level of responsibility - ie do you have total creative licence, do you have the final say on the advertising strategy?

Depdnding on the business, social media post creation and website maintenance could be done in an hour. Ditto with the training stuff - how many staff, how often? Totally different if you're solely responsible for this for 10 staff members or for 20,000.

I'm not sure about hourly but honestly, it could be anywhere between £18k and £100k imo. Although tbph if you manage to do the job around your dc (you mentioned not needing childcare) then it can't be that taxing and I'd imagine it's at the lower end.

whenthelightsgoout26 · 01/03/2023 09:48

The assessing is to prepare staff/business for an assessment from outside agency.

I also forgot to add in I write the policies and amend/update other policies too. For example: covid policy and GDPR policy was written by me.

Having a teaching degree is irrelevant though op (in terms of money), if it's not required for your actual role.

That's less than minimum wage

PurBal · 01/03/2023 10:01

£14-16ph.

PurBal · 01/03/2023 10:02

Should say if employed with the benefits of being an employee (pension etc). More if freelance.

whenthelightsgoout26 · 01/03/2023 10:04

Thanks everyone, quite a wide range of hourly pay. Those suggesting it's not a taxing job. I work part time hours, which I am able to do whilst the baby naps and when all children are in bed in the evenings. Staff meetings tend to be evenings and I also work some weekends when my husband is home.

That's a terrible rate. Why so little?

piedbeauty · 01/03/2023 10:06

I'd charge at least £25 per hour. You're doing a wide range of skilled jobs.

For writing policies etc, I'd quote an overall rate for the job, not an hourly rate.

(I have worked freelance for over 20 years.)

piedbeauty · 01/03/2023 10:09

My first answer was basing your job on being freelance. If you're employed, you will have benefits that freelances don't have, such as paid holidays, sick leave, pension, etc., so I'd say about 35-40k...

Icantbelieveitsnot · 01/03/2023 10:09

I have what sounds like a very similar role. I do have a marketing qualification but that it rather coincidental (role did not involve marketing when I started but work are now utilising my talents!).

I am paid just under £16 per hour in the SE.

whenthelightsgoout26 · 01/03/2023 10:11

No not freelance, I am employed. If I was full time it would be around £21000 Confused

Time to change that. You’re doing yourself a massive disservice charging under
living wage when you need to factor in pensions and sick pay etc.

Mabelface · 01/03/2023 10:18

My sister does a similar role and is on £18 ph, North West

Heytheredaisy · 01/03/2023 10:31

This role would be £19500 - £21500 per annum here in Cornwall and Devon.

GiltEdges · 01/03/2023 10:37

Its not much more than administrative tasks when you break it down. Even policy writing is pretty basic/generic (and I say that as someone who has to write policies as part of my role).

So I don't think £21,000 is unreasonable if outside of London.

I agree too. Many roles are administrative with social media / web content attached

(A bit like a school admin!)
