Private Sector: What pay rise are you getting

Dd is trying to negotiate a pay rise from her tech start up employer. She is early 20s, earning a bit more than minimum wage, has been there a couple of years. They say they are very happy with her work.

If you are working in the Private Sector what kind of pay rise are you getting this year?

And any tips on how best to negotiate with your employer?

2% last autumn as an interim with 5% this July. I moved to this company early last year and got a big step up in pay at that point. 7% on that feels pretty good.

rampila · 28/02/2023 21:22

7% pay rise but negotiated 20% bonus. Figure out which bits are negotiable. Depending on the company some can be negotiated, some not.

TheLaughOfRustyLee · 28/02/2023 21:23

3%

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 28/02/2023 21:23

6% pay rise, and a bonus of 36% of my gross salary (I had a great performance rating).

maddiemookins16mum · 28/02/2023 21:27

We got 5% from January plus a one off £300.00 winter COL payment (non taxed).

Dragonsandcats · 28/02/2023 21:29

I think it will be about 4%.

  1. The company is struggling and with rising costs in our sector we are just trying to keep people in their jobs.
Zorrita · 28/02/2023 21:37

Not heard anything about a payrise from ours so assuming nothing special AKA in line with inflation and absolutely no more in terms of bonus etc. Our teams weren't even given the measly Christmas Party budget in December and the £300 payment that a lot of companies paid out was taxed for us and only for those under 30k.

AdInfinitum12 · 28/02/2023 21:38

6.9%, and a 4% bonus

Blanketpolicy · 28/02/2023 21:40

Ours was August last year and 5% (usually 2-3%), plus we got a £1,000 cost of living support payment (taxed) a couple of months before that.

VintageThoughts · 28/02/2023 21:53

8% + £500 bonus + £500 COL payment.

Chillyallday · 28/02/2023 21:58

2.5% - tech company. Hasn’t been announced broadly yet but anticipate staff going to be very unhappy as they see public sector workers striking and turning down 6%+ rises.

escapingthecity · 28/02/2023 21:58

Company wide 5%. I wouldn't expect any more than that - our profits haven't gone up!

Twillow · 28/02/2023 22:00

7%

febbabies2023 · 28/02/2023 22:01

Ours was agreed at 8.3% for 2022 and during negotiations they also agreed 2023 (due April) at 9% ish

I appreciate we are very lucky - our company has paid above inflation for the past 10 years

Itcouldhappenabishop · 28/02/2023 22:01

5% (private sector, finance). The more junior staff got a higher percentage rise.

apples24 · 28/02/2023 22:05

Ours is performance and position in range related. My UK team got between 5% and 9% and bonuses between 0 and 25%. Plus one off taxable payment of £1,000.

I haven't had a pay rise for a couple of years.

lucya66 · 28/02/2023 22:08

No pay rise since 2020 :(

DottieUncBab · 28/02/2023 22:14

5% in April then another 5% in July when they consolidate part of our bonus with regular pay.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 28/02/2023 22:54

8% payrise and 18% bonus, which I'm very pleased about.

It is based on both personal and business performance but I believe the new MD took it upon himself to level out the female pay gap so that might be why the payrise was so unexpected.

Danikm151 · 28/02/2023 22:58

No idea yet, the pay negotiations keep getting delayed

Worldgonecrazy · 01/03/2023 07:08

3% last Autumn and 3% last year, plus 9% bonus. I am at the very top of my pay scale and higher than comparable roles locally so not complaining. HR review pay based on average salary for roles nationally and locally. Junior team members will be getting up to 7%.

My OH also private sector, had zero pay rises for the last three years. He has a new job now at slightly higher salary.

pjparty · 01/03/2023 07:26

Financial services, I was lucky and got 16% and 58% bonus. Also on mat leave so expected to get shafted, it was a pleasant surprise but suspect I was underpaid previously and they were balancing it.

Notjustamum10 · 01/03/2023 07:28

2% increase and £500 one-off cost of living payment, after no salary increase for 4 years. I’m going to start job hunting this week.
