How long to qualify for pay increase

Hi, what is the 'norm' in terms of how long you have to be in a post to be eligible for the pay increase being paid to all eligible staff? 6 months? 12 months?

I’m not sure there is a norm. At my work it would be anyone employed for around 9 months before the pay rises.

ConfusedAsDuck · 28/02/2023 13:15

Thanks @Overthebow no I realise there probably is no norm. But I'm curious to know what is common. 9 months seems a long time.

Why not just ask where you are?

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 28/02/2023 13:18

In my place you are not eligible if you are new in the company or have had a pay increase due to role change within the 12 months prior to a whole company increase

BearKey · 28/02/2023 13:18

At our place its no pay rise for first 12 months. You accept the job at a specific pay rate so, I don't think it's unreasonable that it should be a pay rate you're happy with for the first year.

AllWorkYoPlait · 28/02/2023 13:28

In my place you have to be employed by end of June to receive a pro rata bonus for that calendar year (paid out the following year). For annual increases I don't actually know. I got a small one after 4 months. Maybe after probation?

I've also worked in many jobs that didn't give pay increases.

Invisimamma · 28/02/2023 13:50

Everyone would get it at my current employer. But we don't have high staff turnover, generally people stay at least a few years.

ConfusedAsDuck · 28/02/2023 19:16

Thanks all. I thought it was usually around 6 months usually, but seems it can be up to a year. It just means I miss out this year sadly, which is a shame given cost of living etc 😕

Usually 12 months

How many months have you been there? I would have thought 9-12 months was usual, otherwise you have people coming in and immediately getting a pay rise when they’d just negotiated their starting salary.

ConfusedAsDuck · 28/02/2023 19:43

10 months since I started, although 12 since I accepted job and negotiated salary. Everything is a LOT more expensive now,

Ours is usually for everyone out of their probation period, so 1-3 months depending on role.

And have you been told you aren’t getting a pay increase?

Skyeheather · 28/02/2023 20:09

Everywhere I've worked, everyone has had a pay review and pay rise at the same time and it's taken place once a year. Can you find out from HR what the policy is?

How big a pay rise are you expecting though? In my experience pay rises have never been that huge. Your Company may not be able to afford a pay rise this year or maybe only a small one?

I think you'd be very lucky to get a significant pay rise when you've been there less than a year.

Twinedpeaks · 28/02/2023 20:19

No minimum at ours. A member of mine joined the day before the 'must be in post on' date and got it! Was the equivalent of almost 10% of his wage!

pawz · 28/02/2023 20:20

12 month min at ours for company wide bonuses / stocks / pay rises.
