If you are passionate about your job...

Name changed for this. If you are passionate about your job, what do you do and how did you find your passion? I'm nearing my 40s and feeling a bit fed up with my corporate job. I'm in a very fortunate position with good pay and a nice title but it doesn't inspire me at all, so looking for some inspiration as I now have the opportunity to make a major career change thanks to a development in my personal life.

Pfft, would love to be passionate about mine, but I'm in a safe/boring job now.

I used to love my job in a campaigning organisation, for a cause I cared about. Not great pay though!

AlmostaMamma · 26/02/2023 17:31

Charity CEO. Love it, usually. Very passionate about the cause. Pay is decent (circa £75K, which is great on a national scale, less so in London).

Never really thought about ‘finding my passion’, tbh. I knew what I wanted to do, and had/have three, five and ten year plans. I’m the same age as you.

DancingDonkeys · 26/02/2023 17:31

I'm not very far into my career, so maybe the passion will wear off a bit, but I'm an accountant for a public sector organisation and I would say I'm pretty passionate about it.
I genuinely believe that my work can make a (positive) difference to the people we serve, which is what makes me believe in it, but I'm not ecstatic about tax or anything, so possibly not the sort of response you were looking for!

I'm switched jobs and industry last year. I love my job, I'm a PA in the Travel industry. I love travel and anything to do with planes (have done since I was a child). I get on so well with the people I work with and support that I couldn't think of anything better right now.

I love my job, I work for myself running my coffeeshop, we bake all our own cakes and pies etc. Built the business up over the last 5 years, survived covid and are now thriving! It's hard work but the rewards come directly back to me. I'm early 40s, only ever had jobs before rather than a career

SkintyFia · 26/02/2023 17:54

I love my job so much; I've been in marketing for about 15 years, but recently moved into a new industry and it's quite exciting.

Is it a new type of job you need, or a similar job in a new industry, do you think?

I'm very happy in my corporate role.

The work is extremely varied, it's a standard joke that once we have done something, we would know how to tackle it in future, but the same thing never turns up again.

What makes it, though, are the people around me. Also very varied, with some who have recently become close friends and many , many who are smart and great company. We are not doing anything really great like nurses or doctors, but we are providing a world class great service at the cutting edge of technology

It never easy but it's also never boring. I do look forward to Mondays - so shoot me.

Teaching, BUT I work in a school with great behaviour and helpful SLT.

Maybe embrace your job and its stability and improve your outside work life. Become an RAf volunteer, learn new skills, meet different people and have fun.
Something like that.

I'm a PA. I love my job, but that's because of the sector I work in and the people I work with. My last job I hated, had no motivation, and really felt under valued. My new boss and colleagues are all lovely, I get thanks and acknowledgement. My colleagues don't see me as just a PA which I found in my old job. My boss values my input and me.

We work bloody hard and put in way more than our 36 hours but we get rewarded for it. I'm constantly learning and I learn something new every day. I don't dread Mondays or the journey into work when I have to go to the office (it's nice to see people).

Midwifery. I love it.

qwerty1972 · 18/07/2023 21:40

Teacher - I’ve been teaching 33 years and I’ve never tired of it. I love the excitement of learning with the children and I enjoy their company. Even before I left high school, I knew, without a doubt, that I wanted to teach. I’ve taught in higher education, alternative education, tutored 1 to 1 and taught online. The variety has probably helped keep my enthusiasm alive.

HenryCavillsPerfectTeeth · 18/07/2023 21:52

IT support technician public sector. Absolutely love it :)

eatsleepfarmrepeat · 18/07/2023 21:57

I’m a chartered surveyor. I work in land management in the landed estates teams and manage a range of private estates for clients. I watched a lot of monarch of the glen growing up - I’ve not made it to Scotland but I’ve got a portfolio of beautiful estates under my belt and I’ve worked in the most spectacular places seeing all the nuts and bolts of these big old estates.
I’ve been in this industry since leaving uni 15 years ago and sometimes still have to pinch myself the places it takes me. I’m “tied” a bit
more since getting married and starting a family and I’ve given up the dream of being a resident agent but still, lovely lifestyle with a fairly perfect pay.

Hermanfromguesswho · 18/07/2023 22:12

I work with young people with additional needs. I love it. It doesn’t pay brilliantly but I have worked my way up to a reasonable (for education!) salary with my experience over the years!
