Hi there I started a trial shift yesterday however unfortunately the boss has decided I'm not best fit, I worked 9 hours straight with no lunch break on the trial shift am I entitled to the pay for the work I did?

Sorry I can't help with the legalities of this but hopefully someone who can will be along soon.

What was the arrangement when they asked you to do the trial shift?
I have older teen DC who've had jobs in restaurants, coffee shops and bars. I've always advised them to check in advance if the trial is paid or unpaid. If it's unpaid I've advised them to say they will only work for 2 hours, that's long enough for employer to see if they're a good fit. Might be worth you doing that next time but sorry you've had a bad experience here.

I looked into this last year as ds had similar - it’s legal but frowned upon.

Hi yes, on email he mentioned the trial shift was a paid shift, so unsure what to do surrounding that but obviously he didn't take any bank information or anything.

@user07677 my DC usually get paid in cash for trial shifts, businesses seem to be allowed to do this.
If you have it in writing it's paid then I would reply saying you're sorry you weren't successful in getting the job but you'll be in this afternoon to collect payment for the 9 hours you worked yesterday.

Good luck

If you were told it was paid, it should be. Email asking how and when. Also working 9 hours straight is illegal so you may have had a lucky escape. Statutory is 20 minutes minimum after six hours.

@LIZS I have sent over an email! And I know it wasn't right it's unethical to work so long without a break.

Trial days can be unpaid as its classed as part of the interview process. This is usually confirmed before actual trial. As you have it in writing I would email sending your details over again and asking for renumeration. Good luck.

@OneMoreCookieMonster that's what I have done just waiting on a response, thank you everyone

Hopefully as he put it on email he will realise he now can’t get out of paying it and pay you. This is so wrong!
