Interviewing while being signed off?

I have been struggling at work and was going to ask to be signed off by the GP on Monday (had to wait 5 weeks for an appt). I have two interviews lined up for Friday though, will this be an issue?

I think I read somewhere that numbers of sick days are noted on references so should I tell the potential new employers?

I was in this position last year. Was signed off sick (stress) from an NHS job and had applied for another in a different Trust. I had the interview remotely and got the job, I was never once questioned about my sick leave and started this week. Do not mention anything unless you are asked direct. It may come up when at the reference stage but people go off sick all the time for various reasons and unless you have had a lot of sickness (especially odd days) I would not be too worried. Good luck with your interview.

Don't mention anything at the interviews unless you're specifically asked but it may well come up in your reference.
Im NHS and our references ask the number of days the employee has been off sick over last year.

Thank you both that’s good to know.

The prospective employers know my reasons for leaving and the work stress/anxiety is connected to that so I’d be happy to explain if asked, it’s just the timings of it!

I have only had a few hours of sick otherwise. On Tuesday this week I worked for an hour and a half but just was so overwhelmed I had to fake a headache and take the rest of the day off.

Good luck OP.
What happens in my Trust is if they want to employ someone but the reference comes back with considerable sick time then they will send the person to Occupational Health for an opinion.
You will have opportunity then to discuss full facts of illness in confidence, any treatment and steps you've taken to get better. They're really just looking for whether this is condition which is going to be ongoing and cause absences in the future. In your case it certainly sounds like it will be fine.
