Hi.I'm due to go back to work in a couple of months after having my third gorgeous little boy.I normally work 5 days a week but I think this is going to be too much with 3 children at home. And child care fees would be ridiculous.I am going to drop 2 days in work,if work will let me.Does anybody know how much notice I have to give them to reduce my hours? And I need a way to make some cash to make up for the drop in wage!I'm so stressed about it.Not into anything like Betterware have tried it and it took up too much time, was a nightmare pushing pram round houses. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!

Depends on your job re notice. Most work places would expect you to submit a flexible working application for them to consider. You only have the right to ask for the hours and not an automatic right to get them.

Not sure re working from home, most jobs are like betterware, books, avon etc unless you can run your own business.

is it going to be more stressful doing two jobs rather than just one for say 4 days?

Depends what you do obviously but it the vast majority of cases it would never be a case of 'giving them notice' that you want to change your hours I'm afraid. As Happymummy says, you have the right to ask, as long as you do so in the correct manner, see here for more information about flexible working. Your employer has the right to refuse if they can give a good business reason why they feel they cannot meet your request.

Just a tip, if you put in a flexible working application to reduce your hours, have a think about how the rest of your work would be done, and propose some kind of solution if you can. You don't strictly have to but it looks good if you've thought about it and your application is more likely to be agreed.

For example, will they need to recruit a job share? Are there things you do that could be done more efficiently/differently/not done at all? Just have a think about how that two days of work will be done if you aren't doing it.
