Stick with easy job or new challenge?

I'm in a decent job, live very comfortably on my salary. Early 50s starting to think about retirement.

They're a really good company to work for, lots of flexibility and everyone treated well. If I'm honest I have a cushy number, but I'm a bit bored.

I've been thinking of making a flexible working application to do 4 days. I don't know if they'll accept it TBH, but they might. I'd still be comfortable.

I've seen a job advertised that's 3 days. Slightly longer commute but still only 30 mins. FTE salary is about £5k extra at the bottom of the scale and there'd be room for progression (currently top of scale).

The job will be much more technically difficult but less varied, more responsibility. As it's only 3 days the financial situation starts to get tighter and whilst I'd be fine, it wouldn't be so comfortable.

I have good pension arrangements from previous career - if I work until normal retirement age my combined pensions will actually be more than my current salary, so I don't need to worry about reducing retirement savings.

Obviously I need to be offered the job first, but WWYD? 4 days, comfortable salary, easy job close to home or new challenge, 3 days slightly less comfortable?

Usually, I'm all for pushing yourself and would normally say change, but working harder for less money in a less varied jobs doesn't sound like am improvement. What is it about the new job that attracts you?

At the moment I'm a bit of a jack of all trades and don't get deep into anything. This would be much more strategic about one aspect of my current role.

I think the change plus the opportunity to do 3 days are the main attractions

Working hard for 3 days is attractive in a way working hard for 5 days isn't!
