Whiplash

I was involved in a car accident last week, truck pulled into my lane, didn't see me, hit my car and spun me around the roundabout. I didn't feel pain straight away but as week has gone on I have more and more pain and have whiplash and nerve damage. Painkillers are barely touching it.

I've tried to work at home, as can't drive due to neck pain but work are being so demanding and unsupportive and I feel like I can't cope with work whilst trying to recover.

Doctor has signed me off for two weeks, I'm just asking here, am I being unreasonable? are my expectations of my employer to be understanding unreason

able?

Sorry about your accident that sounds very scary. I hope you recover soon.

Work needs to listen to you and allow you time to get better. If you have been signed off then you have a couple of weeks now to get better and consider extending that time on doctor's advice if you need to.

Your work are unreasonable if they ignore your fit note or put undue pressure on you to return. You have not given enough information about your employer, what they have done etc for me to able to say more than that. If they are unsympathetic then just shore up your position with medical evidence that you can't work for as long as you need to get better.

Please also ask your GP for a full thyroid panel blood test. A whiplash injury Can have a devastating effect on your thyroid function. It basically 'killed' mine. In the US it's common practice, pity it's not in the UK.

I'm now 2 months later from my accident and still struggling with whiplash and trauma to my arm from gripping steering wheel. Doctor has signed me off for another 4 weeks. I'm gutted as I just want to be back to normal. Has anyone else had this long off work and were your employers understanding? mine are not

Are you seeing a physio?

mackerelsandwich · 31/03/2023 20:47

I'm on waiting list

Have you spoken to your insurance about your injuries? A car hit us and within weeks insurance told us to have private physio as it would be covered by the claim.

Have you updated your insurance company regarding your soft tissue injury? They can add the cost of physio to your claim against the other driver. You need to start treatment sooner rather than later so go private if you can.

Echoing the advise about speaking to insurance, when a similar thing happened to me a few years ago, their insurance set me up with physio within a couple of weeks, they just sent me a link to book my own.

I've been assessed for insurance and physio has been recommended so I'm just waiting. It's just so frustrating, thank you I just want the pain to go
