And looking for something part time/flexible and interesting.

I am currently looking at NHS jobs and local council. Am considering Education too.

I’ve been looking after my children for the last few years. Looking to return to work this year but probably after some training to update skills and learn new packages etc…

Any advice is greatly welcomed! 😊

Hey @Adminjobs23 if you're after NHS admin and don't have much experience AMSPAR is a good course to do, a lot of colleges hold it in the evening/online and you can get funding for it if needed. What are you drawn to, there are lots of back office roles that aren't well known or would you rather be patient facing?

FortyFacedFuckers · 30/01/2023 17:02

Hi OP I work in the NHS and have done for years, I would look at your local trust and see if they are recruiting "bank admin workers" also I don't know what banding you would be looking at but (in my trust and probably others) it is easier to get a band 4 role if you already work there so would be worth taking a band 2 etc and applying for other roles that suit better

How about a government department? Our local one employs temps through the agency Brook Street.

Bobbinsbop · 30/01/2023 17:27

@haironmychin is there somewhere you could recommend for doing the AMSPAR course? Just had a Google and there is a lot of choices thanks

haironmychin · 30/01/2023 17:30

Local colleges are the best bet I think, as they can get you placements at local hospitals for modules of the course and they usually have access to funding for the course. If anyone else can advise they may know more on that one.

I agree with the poster further up about doing some agency/bank work to try different admin roles out.

I do admin for the Environment Agency, love it. I'm full time, hybrid but on flexi time so can do my hours anytime between 7am - 7pm with a max 2 hours for lunch, nipping out to do the school run and having a hot drink to catch up with DD (13yrs) is fine providing I'm available for meetings and make my time up.

Thank you all for your very helpful and encouraging replies.

@haironmychin I will look into the AMSPAR course, and funding assistant would be helpful. I think I’d prefer a back office role to start off with initially.

@FortyFacedFuckers I actually live near to two large NHS Trusts so that’s definitely something I will give more thought on about joining with the Bank.

@PritiPatelsMaker That’s very handy to know. It would be good to find out about different roles in Government admin.

@Singleandproud Your role sounds very interesting with the full time hybrid flexi working. Especially with being able to do school runs etc..

Well I’ve got a few ideas to explore further.

Thank you 😊

I went back to work after 5 years off with my children. I wasn't getting anywhere with part time applications so ended up applying for full time to get myself back to work. Was planning to work full time for a while then try to get part time but have found that terms and conditions are very different now and, while full time is hectic with a family, it is definitely doable and the extra money is great.
Working from home/hybrid is very common and employers are more flexible. I do 2 days in office and 3 at home and employer is fine with school runs, nipping out at any point of the day etc. As long as the job is done and you are available, not taking the p.
I did a few Excel courses which have helped me get a promotion. Loving being back at work. Good luck!

I’d also recommend looking at roles in universities, if you have one nearby. Often flexible options for professional (non-academic) staff, and they frequently offer good development opportunities once you’re in role too.

Look at your local housing providers too. Some are ran via local councils and some are stand alone.

haironmychin · 31/01/2023 13:12

Good luck! @Adminjobs23 😊
