cycle2work scheme, Can I buy a bike for my wife or does it have to be for me who is the employee?

Just that really?

Do Halfords/Tredz care who the bike is for as long as they get paid.
Obviously I wouldn't want to do something illegal and get into trouble at work.

Anyone used this scheme to get a bike for a partner?

You can use it for anyone. We've just done it for my sons bike for Christmas

The purpose of the scheme is to enable (via a discounted loan) you, the employee to cycle to work.

I would check with your actual employer

😟
@carrierbags Did you say the bike was for your son? Did you buy the bike at Halfords?

Practically, they’ll never know who the bike is for, though they might be suspicious if you bought a really obvious “women’s” bike with a male name. Not that they might do anything about that. I had to buy a kids bike as I’m so short, technically you’re not allowed to buy kids bikes but after chatting to them they were ok with me as they accepted that was the size I needed.

carrierbags · 22/01/2023 12:11

Not from Halfords and it was a youth bike. 😬
My bad for giving wrong advice, lots people I know have done this also.

Maybe I'm going to have to identify as a lady bike rider!
I just need a little operation to reduce my height by a foot.

Just order the bike using the online facility with Halfords or Tredz and that will generate your letter of collection to go in store to collect. You should also be able to select delivery as an option - certainly with Tredz as they don't have multiple branches as Halfords do.
They really won't physically check to see if the frame size is correct for you!
You're simply getting a bike for you that you're happy for your dp to make use of. (Braces self to be called a massive mn fraudster for this comment!)
There's also a sub topic for cycling under the "in the club" topic if you want any advice.

I have never used mine for my commute to work. I wanted a bike and it seemed like a good way of getting one. No one once asked me what I was using it for. I've now left the company and paid off what was left and have a bike.

Anythingbutsnow · 22/01/2023 14:48

Husband got one last year they have never checked up on usage.

AreOttersJustWetCats · 22/01/2023 16:53

Halfords won't care, but HMRC would if they ever check it.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 22/01/2023 16:57

They won't know or care. I've not once used the bike I got to cycle to work.

It would get stolen if I left it chained up there for a start!
