Worth it?

I’m looking to earn a bit of extra money a month but because I’m employed my tax will be 20%. I have found a little. Cleaning job for 5 hours a week but would leave me with £170 per month - is it worth it?

What else would you be doing with those 5 hours?

Userrrr346 · 19/01/2023 15:43

I have two children so looking after them, cleaning the house… anything else I would normally be doing would be with them so I’m almost looking at it as a bit of a break as well. I will be working 4 days a week at my usual job after 2 months as well

Well everybody pays tax, I am not sure I understand your point on that. Up to you whether it is worth it or not.

It depends on how much £170 is worth to you. If it means you don't have to choose between heating and eating, it IS worth it. But if you're comfortable financially, you might not need the money as much.

I agree.
What would £170 do to your current situation?

You could look at it as alleviating your energy bills at the moment or it could be a month's spend on annoying essentials like a huge pack of toilet rolls, all cleaning and washing essentials, a bulk buy of pet food , a month's worth of nappies etc...

It's entirely up to you.

But you need to offset cleaning products for your clients, any equipment needed and travel costs to and from your clients.

If your cleaning gig is self employed, and your main job is as an employee, you can make use of your £1000 trading allowance which may help with the tax part.

Nobody can tell you whether or not it’s worth it without your full circumstances and preferences though! My guess is yes, for the next two months, then when your four-days-per-week kick in, maybe not…
