What do you want to?

You could start by having a look at the national careers service website and taking the skills assessment

littlelid · 18/01/2023 10:19

Do you have gcse maths and English?

littlelid · 18/01/2023 10:20

Do you want something physical? With people? In an office? Anything in particular interest you?

You need to build skills and experience - if I were you I’d look at paid apprenticeships in the first instance.

When it comes to entry level office jobs, the most plentiful and easy to get are in recruitment - do some searches for recruitment coordinators.

I'd get signed up to a temping agency to get an idea of what is our there - the job market has changed a lot of the last 10 years I'd say. Also, how flexible is your expectation of 9-5? You might need to re-think that, depending

littlelid · 18/01/2023 10:28

I agree temping is a good idea

What salary do you need to make to make 9-5 work, what will be your childcare costs for before/after school and holidays?

What kind of area are you able to look in, if you need something very local in a rural area that will reduce your choices compared to being able to work in a city with lots of industries?

Do you have capability and desire for home working - somewhere to set up a workstation, good internet access, able to self motivate?

Or would you prefer working with people face to face?

Do you like physical activity or office based?

I anything like shift or early work isn't possible as a single parent, it would need to be in line with when he goes to school that's what I mean with 9 to 5

Possibly yes. I do live in the countryside but i drive i have to drive everywhere anyway. Physical or office i can't say i have a preference, but anything which requires very good personable skills is probably my last choice. I am useless at that stuff.

Is that where you post your cv to an agency and they contact you? Have you done this? I worry about dodgy /scammy things with that sort of stuff
