Have you ever quit a job after 2 weeks?

I found a job that has good hours, meh pay, and close to my home. But it is more full on than I was prepared for.

Its in a nursery and almost everyone is new. We're expected to get on with it and know the routine with just one person, who isn't new, semi helping.

I want to go back to my previous place.

Have you ever left a job after a short rome? How did you bring it up with the manager? Did you completely leave it off your CV?

Also how much notice did you have to give? I havent signed the contract yet but it would be two weeks.

I’ve left jobs after 2 days, 3 days and 6 weeks.
each time, I knew very quickly it wasn’t for me. For the first two, I was employed on a temp to perm contract via an agency. I spoke to the agency to tell them that I had realised the jobs weren’t for me. Because it was temp to perm, there was no notice period (temp to perm benefits the employer more than the employee but this is one benefit!). On the six week one, I spoke to a manager (not my manager as he was off) and we spoke about why I wasn’t enjoying it. Ultimately they weren’t things that could be changed so it was agree that I could leave the same day.

I suppose from a managers point of view, it’s better they know quickly if you don’t want to stay so they don’t waste any more resources. If it’s temp to perm via an agency and you feel more comfortable telling them, then do that.

id leave it off your CV if you can as theres no way it looks good in writing, even if it can be explained simply in a conversation!

Yip twice when I was younger.. one in a nursing home and one in a holiday park. I do not regret either.

Lochjeda · 11/01/2023 20:36

Sorry forgot to say, never put either on my cv. After such a short period of time and with no contract signed I'd just email or call to say you won't be returning but they may not pay you.

I've left a job after 4 days.

You don't need to work notice and you done need to put it on your CV.

I would phone my old manager and ask if I could come back. If they say Yes, just leave the new place and tell them sorry but it wasn’t right for you

No. Three weeks, though. Phones never stopped, couldn't get hold of people, pay was dreadful and the turnover the same. I was temping and left a few minutes before 5 one day and they rang my agency to complain instead of just speaking to me the next day (I always make time up, before anyone says anything). I did have a permanent job to go to and that turned out to be even grimmer (left after 3 months probation was up).

I left but agreed to finish the week. I hope I get paid still. I suppose them agreeing for me to just finish the week is an acceptance

It does sound like the sort of thing you ‘shouldn’t’ do. But ask anyone who’s done it and I reckon at least 95% would say no regrets!

if they’ve asked you to finish the week, I’d assume they are paying you.

I quit after 5 days.

The job was awful, management even worse. Longest 5 days of my life.

That’s a good outcome. They will have to pay you now for the days you have worked.

I left a job after two minutes once

When you know, you know

LikeAnOldFriend · 12/01/2023 07:29

Well done op. I think that's a good thing to have done, you have to do what you feel is right. I almost left a job after four days once and didn't, but ultimately could have. I knew already it wasn't for me but didn't quite trust myself, and in the end stayed til about six months but mostly only because by the time I'd got through the first couple of weeks I felt I couldn't leave too soon. I don't know but I would say for that time ok to leave off CV.

will your old job take you back?
