Hi all,

i am currently on secondment/project (bugger all in writing though) and while seconded/on a project have switched to a 9 day fortnight with every other Friday as my non-working day.

I’m returning to my original team, a 9DF is also used in this team, however it is on a rolling basis, so one week a Monday, the next time a Tuesday, Wednesday the following time.

My question is, can they make me swap from every other Friday to the rolling one? My letter states my agreed day off is every other Friday.

Thanks in advance

D

Yes. If you are seconded then your original terms remain in place on your substantive post. If those terms vary in the original team, then the variance applies to you too. So you operate on the basis of the way your original team operate. The only argument you might have had, and it would be weak anyway, would be to work a ten day fortnight in accordance with your original terms, until such time as they had served proper notice of the change in working patterns.

On a slightly different tack, whilst I can see why your current pattern would suit you nicely, insisting that you work different patterns to all your colleagues would create work plan havoc and unfairness in the team. And I seriously doubt you would be remotely popular with your colleagues expecting a nicer set of terms than they have just because you had a secondment.

Thank you!

it’s what I thought but I’ll ask regardless as it really does suit me at this point in time.

In terms of making me unpopular with my colleagues that’s really not a concern. Not everyone does it, lots of people work part-time etc, we don’t all work together in the same place at the same time and we are all totally autonomous really. Plus they are thrilled I’m coming back 😉

In that case you have nothing to lose by asking.

I mean I’ll ask, like you say nothing to lose, but just wanted to know if they can refuse to accommodate- I won’t be a dick about it!! 😂
