Microsoft teams - team building/bonding fun game suggestion

chorusline79 · 09/01/2023 10:51

Hi,
Does anyone have any suggestions for a fun session on teams for a team game please?

I've googled but not inspired!

Needs to be around 10 mins, with no prep beforehand for team members. There are around 6-7 of us so no breakout rooms.
Simple is fine! Any ideas very gratefully appreciated as I am having a blank....

Requires a tiny bit of prep but we did one recently where we all had to email the organiser with the name of the song we had on repeat when we were 16. Then on the call the organiser played them (or you could just call them out) and we had to guess who each song belonged to.

It was a really fun icebreaker and not cringy at all.

My internet connection goes every time this happens, as does my respect for my boss for insisting on this crap.
I work, you pay me. I am not working for fun, but only to pay the bills.

@OnTheRunWithMannyMontana

I love that idea!

Skribbl is fun for this sort of thing. It's basically online Pictionary. We also do Kahoot! sometimes. Good for getting all involved online.

My idea of horror, who thinks there's any benefit in this type of thing?

HR?

mintbiscuit · 09/01/2023 21:50

Linkee! It’s a board game but you can repurpose for team calls.

my team loves this.

That is a really good one.

There's a game 'Herd Mentality'. Basically the leader says a prompt and everyone writes down the first thing that comes to mind. Everyone who writes down the most popular answer gets a point.

i.e. The best part of a roast dinner? 4 people say roast potatoes, 2 people say the meat and 1 person says sprouts. The 4 people who say roast potatoes get 1 point.

Questions could be - a famous person called jennifer, best beetles song, worst thing to find on your desk in the morning, what's something you put on your christmas tree, tea or coffee.

The trick is to do rounds and ask questions fairly quickly so people don't overthink and have to put their first thought. Means you get some funny responses. You can also note down whenever someone give an answer that only they put forward i.e. they are the only one with that answer. Then at the end you have a winner and the most unique.

Teams games are never going to be the best fun ever. But that one was grand.

chorusline79 · 11/01/2023 23:10

@rambunctiousrapscallion that's a great suggestion - Thankyou, I'll bank that oneGrin

I quite like the one where everyone is asked to go take a photo of the inside of their fridge, send it to the host and then the group goes through each photo and has to guess whose fridge is whose.

Or the one where you have a list of things you must retrieve from within your home and bring back to your desk in 3 minutes

My sisters team did this one at Christmas.

Horrifically embarrassing for her as she had half a block of cheese, a red onion and half a pint of milk in there as she was so skint and the shopping I had bought for her wasn't arriving until later in the week.

Might be being over-sensitive but I would avoid that one in the current climate :(

Not perhaps helpful for you, but can you reconsider.

'Games' on teams are never fun.

It's a toe cringing horror.

Please reconsider and perhaps have a simple 'introduce yourself type segment. Without any need for 'fun facts' or other hideousness

Agreed. And skip the cringey introduce yourself part also.

OrangePomander · 11/01/2023 23:32

Cluedo.

Which team member murdered the boss? Grin

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 11/01/2023 23:40

Stop the bus. Think of a letter. Then 4or 5 categories ie; countries, celebrities and then score double points on a double.

Catch Phrase. Email across your pictures for phrases.

Logo game. Pick different company logos and guess who they are.

2023istheyearigetmyacttogether · 12/01/2023 23:13

Bingo?
Does require a bit of prep as you have to send out the cards in advance and ask everyone to print theirs off

Guessing people’s ages isn’t an appropriate work activity!

This is even worse!

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 13/01/2023 08:19

@planefullofotters oh don't be a spoilsport! It's not about guessing peoples ages!

Mine was a song from the 70s that my mum introduced me to. I wasn't born until the mid 80s! (Also we are all HR so could just look up peoples ages)

There's always one.....

Pinkbananas01 · 13/01/2023 08:30

Have played codenamed on teams a few times & was simple & reasonably fun

Pinkbananas01 · 13/01/2023 08:32

Codenames even!

EspeciallyDetermined · 13/01/2023 08:35

I'd avoid anything related to their home life (I'd refuse point blank to take a photo of any part of my home). Or anything that requires people to guess things about me and I'd include the music one in that (I'd pick something randomly from a different era) . So maybe a general knowledge quiz or kahoot would be best. This is making me very glad I don't work remotely so no need for this sort of thing.

chorusline79 · 17/01/2023 06:36

@OnTheRunWithMannyMontana thanks - it went down really well and we had a bit of a laugh with it - grateful for the suggestion. Hopefully I won't need to do another one for a while!
