The CEO sent a company wide email after I mentioned a court case

I told my boss that I had a job offer, he asked me why I wanted to leave and I mentioned a court case that was happening worried me that I would be made redundant and other things.

He went to the CEO to ask him about it, I said I'd stay, now a week later the CEO sent a company wide email stating the company was changing names because of certain reasons including the court case.

In summary he said he didn't want staff with an ill feeling and apologises that he doesn't want it to hurt staff or their families, that he's trying to fix it with the rebrand.

I feel like it was a snide remark to me wanting to leave.

Doesn’t sound snide to me. Sounds like he’s trying to respond to the concerns that might cause staff to leave.

I'm not sure I 100% grasp this but you're being punished for being one chess move ahead of him. He was supposed to be able to control the pawns better.

Actually scrap what I said. I think he just mean an unsettled feeling. He doesn't want staff worrying, like you did. If you find this worrying you won't be the only one. Ignore my first post.

It’s been brought to his attention that some staff are concerned and tried to address it.

Nothing snide there.

You specifically said this court case resulted you in getting another job due to your worry over your job. He's being proactive and trying to assuage other staff before there's more people leaving- sensible I'd say.

He's been told that some staff feel so uncomfortable being associated with them that they want quit, so he has taken action.
He doesnt want anyone to feel that way, so a rebrand might help.

He isnt saying he doesnt want any staff with ill feeling to stay working there. He is saying he dowant want any staff to feel that way so he is doing what he can to fix it.

What sort of court case?

I would not take this badly. If anything I'd feel good that my concerns had been taken this seriously.

I think this bit might need clarifying because either it's:

I don't want staff to feel bad or hurt about the court case, and I'm rebranding

Or

I don't want staff to be upset or hurt by the name change but I'm doing this as SOME PEOPLE are annoyed about the court case

How big is this company?

Surely no business would change its name just to get at one employee!

What did you want him to do? Wish you all the best whilst holding the door open? To give him credit it sounds conscientious - if you still want to leave then the name thing was never the issue Confused

It sounds like he is addressing employees concerns and trying to make organisational changes to improve things going forward.
How big is the company? You can’t be the only one feeling unsettled and it’s good practice to keep employees in the loop about changes to the company.

I think I'd be more worried that he feels he needs to change the company name to avoid any negative fallout from a court case. I think you were right to have found something else in the first instance.

I don’t think he’s getting at you. However I’m not sure I’d want to work for a company going through such a legal action (court case?) that they want to change their name. The last company I knew who did that were a care company with abusive staff.

But maybe I’m confused.

Yep. He's taken your concerns on board, taken you seriously, and wants to reassure others. I'd say that's pretty much the opposite of snide.

You can't do something like that in less than a week, there are all sorts of legal and financial ramifications, and they take time. The name change was probably already in progress, and maybe all that's happened is that the CEO has brought forward the announcement to employees.

Changing the name wouldn’t make me feel any happier but about the court case. But it would depend a lot on what the court case was, as to whether I wanted to stay working there.

Doesn’t sound like he is getting at you, no.

This. And it’s nothing to do with the OP.

Changing to co name won't stop tge court case affecting the business.

I don't know why you chose to stay, I def would have left.

The CEOs comment wasn't about you, more as a result of what you said.
