Work

Part time or term time (children grown up)

I currently do 30 hours over 4 days. I love my day off each week. I've seen a role I'm interested in but it's full time - but term time only (not teaching).

I love the idea of working term time (long summers, always having the whole of Easter and Christmas off etc) but I'm not sure if it's worth swapping my part time job for. My children are grown up so I don't need a term time job but would enjoy having time with my grandchildren in the holidays. But do I only ever want to have annual leave when the schools are shut? Any thoughts please?

I'm having this dilemma from the opposite perspective. I work TTO - no matter how crap things are I know that I am only 6 weeks away from (at least) a week or more off.

Do be aware that school staff don't get paid the full 52 weeks though - I am paid term time plus 5.6 weeks.

How much do you like your holidays abroad? If you like to travel, I’d stick with what you have so that you can travel during term time but if it’s not something you’re bothered about, then having all the school holidays off is lovely!

I work term time only (not a teacher) and as my kids get older I am finding the holidays get a bit boring, my kids are teens so I do like being around but they don't need me much. I think once they are all grown up I will be looking for year-round jobs.

It's nice having regular long holidays but DH only gets limited time off and very few of my friends are around. It was different when the kids were smaller, lots of play dates and days out etc, but now I have days where I've just got nothing to do!

Personally I think stick with part time

Mine are older . I.love the idea like a pp said that there's never more than 6ish weeks off between terms. HOWEVER I have picked up a very part time 2 evenings a week job out of sheer boredom. I don't need 14 weeks off a year. 2 evenings a week gives me an extra few hundred a month and gives me something to do

I work term time only in a private school. I am full time, but my god I work my arse off when I’m there. It’s pretty full on.
I have done part time 4 days before, but worked a Saturday, which was great when dds were little as dh would be home.
I am starting to get itchy feet to move on as have been there nearly 6 years and seen lots of changes. Dds are teens, but also, I do like my time off during the school holidays.

Thank you for replying. I hadn't even considered that I might get bored! I'm still not sure - I am reluctant to give up my day off each week but I just can't drop the idea of having so much leave. I am quite confident I could return to my old job if needs be, so maybe I'll try term time and see what it's like. I suppose it also depends on how much I like the new job - it's a role I haven't done before.
