to put this on a CV?

In addition to my main job, I have been doing consultancy work for another company for the last couple of years.

I'm re-writing my CV in the hope of applying for a more senior job later in the year. Should I write it on my CV, or does that just seem weird?

FWIW, my current employer knows I do it, so there isn't a secret to keep. I'm just wondering whether it would come across as a positive, or not?

Definitely put it on. It’s experience you have.
If consulting it means you have a high level of knowledge 🙂

A CV is not the place to underplay your experience.

How relevant are the skills / knowledge used in your consultancy work to what you plan to apply for?

JanglyBeads · 30/12/2022 18:17

I don't see why you wouldn't?

NotRainingToday · 30/12/2022 18:29

Thanks everyone. The skills are relevant and so is the sector, so it looks like a 'yes'.

In which case....where to put it? I currently have current role, previous role (at same company), other roles in reverse chronological order. I don't want to put it first as it might look like I'd left my current company.

Make sure you make it clear that you did the two jobs at the same time - you don't want to make it look like a typo

Label it something like Additional Employment?

watchfulwishes · 31/12/2022 07:31

Either have a section labelled 'consultancy' or amend 'current role' to 'current roles' and put it directly under your main job with clear dates.

You are overthinking this!

Draw attention to it in your covering letter to explain.
