If I leave my job with no notice, will I still be paid?

Hello all,

I started a new job at the beginning of December, and have fulfilled everything asked of me - I have completed every shift; haven't ever been late or left early; have done every task to the best of my ability. Up until today I've been told I'm doing really well. I've also hit all my performance targets. However today a new manager started and she was really rude to me, repeatedly, in front of our clients.

I have a new job starting in January, for which I intended to hand in my notice after Christmas. However given they've been shitty I don't really care and would prefer just not to go back tomorrow. Usually I'd give it a second try, but it's the day before Xmas eve, and I feel why should I make the effort for a manager who clearly feels intensely irritated by everything I do!

So my question is - I'm due to be paid on Dec 30th. Will I still be paid for the work I've done on the 30th, even if I don't come back tomorrow? My contract says a weeks notice but I am in a probation period.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Are you paid in advance?

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 22/12/2022 18:24

No, paid in arrears. I started on the 5th Dec 2022, and pay day is 30th Dec 2022. I haven't received any money at all yet and have worked from the 5th until today.

Yes, you'll be paid for the days you've worked.

I think that by law they have to pay you for any work you have done, and holidays you have accrued.

AdInfinitum12 · 22/12/2022 18:26

They'll probably deduct a week's pay from your final salary.

hugoagogo · 22/12/2022 18:28

Yes, you should be paid for the work you have done.
In your position I might claim to be sick / family emergency tomorrow, then you can give yourself a bit of cooling off time and not just burn your bridges.

No judgement though, I have walked out of a job before myself, it can such a relief.

Call in sick tomorrow and in your notice after Christmas.

girlmom21 · 22/12/2022 18:31

Give the weeks notice and phone in sick

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 22/12/2022 18:34

Thanks everyone.

Yes calling in sick tomorrow to give me some breathing space sounds like a good idea, maybe I should try that rather than just not showing up.

In my (admittedly old) experience if you leave with no notice your final
pay may be delayed. They are likely
to have already submitted the payroll, assuming everyone works their required hours, and yours will be too high. Rather than paying you and try to claw it back they may be able to stop the planned payment and do a separate one for the right amount, but this may mean you get paid a little later.
