Can't find all of my GCSE certificates and need them for an interview. First light at the end of a dark tunnel and am now scared it is all shafted. [sad]

Have two interviews next week both of which have asked for the original certificates and I just can't find some of my GCSE certificates.

Have some GCSE's, all A level, sixth form reports, prizes from school, degree and evidence of PGCE and certificates from further study but the certificate for 8 of my gcses including the subject I teach, maths and english are missing.

They have said in the letter they won't interview without certificates, what can I do?

contact the exam board, maybe through your old school?

i did, and got them ok, had to pay though.

foxinsocks · 02/02/2008 21:17

cor, what a thorough interview. I don't have any of those certificates .

Can you call the old exam board and see if they have copies?

karen999 · 02/02/2008 21:17

You can get copies. I had to get copies of Scottish equivalents for uni and they sent them to me no problem....actually you could also phone your old school and ask if they have any computerised/manual records?

MrsFogi · 02/02/2008 21:18

They're mad, most people wouldn't be able to find these without a great deal of notice. Why not phone up and come clean that you can't produce them on the day but that you can produce x, y and z and that you have have ordered replacements (I'd get this moving so that you never have this prob again).

twinsetandpearls · 02/02/2008 21:19

The interview is Monday, they only called Thursday night to invite me for interview. I had my record of achievement from school and assumed they were in there but on checking closer they were not. Dp is currently in the loft looking for my degree certificates , I know they are up there.

I suppose I could say I can contact the exam board.

I got them replaced, maybe check online with your local exam board, you have to pay, but if you have the a-level ones for the relevant subjects wouldnt they be happy with those, if not, you need to confidentaly explain that you are replacing some certificates and although you havent got them to show you understand any offer of employment would be conditional on receipt of the certificates

twinsetandpearls · 02/02/2008 21:20

I am sure it will be OK.

It is just worrying me that in the letter it says that without the certificates they won't even interview me.

could the uni where you got your dehree from write you a letter saying you do indeed have these quals becuase they would have cjecked them at some point; may bide you time?

FillyjonkisCALM · 02/02/2008 21:25

god almighty though

I have NO idea who I did my GCSEs through

tbh, I'd be almost inclined not to stick my GCSEs/A levels on if they wanted proof of this.

I remember a similarly arsey interview I once had where they got pernickity about my missing gcse certificates. Ok I had a first class honours degree and a law conversion certificate, but no, they wanted proof that I had a gcse in english language. The job was as a sodding casual relief filing clerk in the Inland Revenue . (thankfully I got a proper job and never had to produce the certificate)

karen999 · 02/02/2008 21:25

God, its not uncommon for people to have misplaced or lost their certificates! I am sure they will understand....they certainly should interview you. It is understandable that they may not offer you the job without them but you can rectify that by that stage....good luck for Monday!x

twinsetandpearls · 02/02/2008 21:26

Having looked at my certificates I have got my a levels wrong , I thought I got a B in sociology and I actually got an A.

So I could start by saying the good news is that I am cleverer than I orginally thought but the bad news is ...

It does feel a bit like that FillyjonkisCALM as I don't have my certificate to prove my GCSE in English but I have an A grade A level, same with my teaching subject no GCSE certifiate but proof I have an A grade A level and a degree ( if we get the certificates out of the loft

Have emailed the exam authority, I could take a print of the email to show I am not fobbing them off.

Degree certificates are now down from the loft.

Surely if I take my email asking for the certificates and agree that if they offer me the job ( and that is quite a bif if) I will produce certificates it will be OK.

Would phoning the school I sat them at be of any use? Do they hold records?
